A Victorian Xmas Eve - update 16 Feb

Post by msufly »

I needed a break from JE's Trick or Treat but I don't want to lose my stitchy bug so I'm going to give this rotation thing a try. Tonight I started A Victorian Christmas Eve by Sandy Littlejohn & Deborah Lester. Only a few stitches in so far so nothing cool to take a picture of but I thought I'd start the thread to keep me motivated. This is also the first piece I'm starting from the left side & not from the center! <gasp!>

Here's what it will look like. There are 56 colors in DMC but no blended colors and no partial stitches! My husband likes this one so it'll definitely be framed & displayed during the holiday season (once it's done - probably take me awhile!)

As soon as my fabric arrives from PTP's Xmas in July sale, I'll start another project in my new rotation....it's Fjord Ponies by Ink Circles for my mother-in-law.

The pattern is set for 14 ct fabric so I'm using basic cream aida since EVERY square has a stitch - 2 over 1. It will be 30.1" long by 8.1" tall. A big piece!!! What makes it seem even more daunting is that the thread chart lists how many stitches of each color, the length of thread used (not counting waste) and how many skeins needed (to 2 decimal points)! The thread chart comes with both DMC & Anchor numbers.

I've also got A Summer Ball from the same designers in my stash & want to stitch that badly as well. That ones even bigger! I know a few people on the board have at least started that one.

Here it is after one week of stitching! Since my stitching time is limited to when my daughter is sleeping, I get stuck in a color rut and do as much of one color as I can just because I can get more stitches in without switching threads. I'm really liking it so far! The Qsnap I'm using is 11 inches square, to give you a feeling for the size.

My daughter starts Mother's Day Out next week. She'll be there for 5.5 hrs three days a week...that's assuming she doesn't have a complete melt-down when I leave her there. I'll be spending more time stitching to get me through my own meltdowns at leaving her! Now just to decide if I'll keep working on this or go back to Trick or Treat. Still waiting on my fabric from PTP's Xmas in July sale...
