Sarah's Fractal 361 - Leaves - FINISHED!!

I started this one in March this year, so it's quite new to my rotation. I'm stitching on 32 count white evenweave, 2 over 2 full crosses and the finished design will measure roughly 18 x 18 inches. Here's a picture of what it will look like:-

The page I'll be working on next is mostly 3 shades of purple so it shouldn't take too long, hopefully!

Can't wait to see your update on this. With only three colors on the page and with your speed, I shouldn't have to wait too long!

I've looked at this one myself. I love fractals, and this is unusual. I'll look forward to your updates. :)

Finished the page! It wasn't all purple after all, there was a nice little orange bit in there to break the monotony :)

No, there's one more page to go which looks like it's a combination of dark purples, moving through dark blues such as 939 and into black at the edge, probably 3-4 colours on the whole page.

That's really pretty, and you've done so much already! I like the swirliness of it, but I'm a little confused by the name -- aren't fractals abstract repeating patterns?

I'm with you, Mabel (confused). I got the chart from xs-collectibles.com and it's under the Fractal section as Fractal No 361 so I'm not sure if they put it in the wrong section or thought that the very loosely similar leaf shapes warranted calling it a fractal :thinks: That's actually why the picture attracted me so much - because it was nothing like the others

Time for me to display my true math nerdiness! I did my senior project (in mathematics) on the fractal analysis of Jackson Pollock's paintings. 8)

A fractal is actually defined based on repeating statistical characteristics, and doesn't always look like a repeating pattern. Some examples from nature include lightning, snowflakes, shorelines, trees and leaves, even broccoli.

From casual observance, this one looks like the actual leafy design displays fractal qualities, and it's just set against a pretty background. :)
