Sampler update and a lovely surprise!

Post by ~threadbear~ »

Well my son got baptised yesterday and you were right. He did love the sampler, infact he was really touched by it.
He was totally shocked I'd managed to keep it a secret from him, and was amazed his little brother had kept everything completely to himself as well.
We got him a special watch, which we all clubbed together (even the little one had insisted on putting his money in as well, so it was really from him, as well as the rest of us) to get him and he was speechless, he just hadn't expected anything.

Anyhow, I also had a surprise...
My mum and my eldest had got me two boxes of threads off ebay.
So I've spent the morning sorting them out numerically.

Stash, stash, stash, stash, stash, stash, stash, stash,

Had a few not quite right, but have managed to sort them using a colour chart online. For example a bright pink labelled 3770, but it is actually a creamy colour, which I have here. So I don't have a clue what this pink now is. Also, I have a problem with a purply colour (208) as I have two similar shades both numbered as that. I know which I think is more likely, but not entirely sure. So I was hoping, if I post up the colours later, maybe you could all help me work it out? If you don't mind ...
Only, I don't have a needle shop near enough to go along and compare.

So, that's my news from the weekend.

Thanks everyone!
:D

OK, here are the pictures of the colours I cant work out for sure.

First up the pink one. It says on the bobbin, 3770, but as I said, that number checks out on the charts as a creamy colour, which I also have.

So anyone any idea's which number this really is?
Suspect pink bobbin

Then the problem purples. Both have the number 208 on them.
problrm purples

I think from checking the colour charts this ia most likely to actually be 208 but I'm not 100% to be honest.
The likely suspect
So if that is the real 208 ... who is this one?
The imposter?

Any help will be appreciated!

Congratulations to your son. I knew he would like the sampler, particularly as it was specially for him - but then who wouldn't :D

It might be a bit difficult to match up the colours as our monitors are all going to be set differently.

Oooh that's lovely news. I'm glad he enjoyed it and YAY for stash!

If you're on when I head home, remind me of those threads. I have a lot of pinks and I think I have 208 in my box, but I didn't think to bring it to work as I'm working on my kit. I'll take a look for you.

Thanks so much everyone for all the lovely wishes. I really do appreciate it.
:D :D :D

Mags, I never thought of the screen making a difference, I guess it could prove a problem.
Angel, it would be great if we can try to match them if possible, but I am now thinking Mags will be right and it could be hard to match up the colours because of our screen settings. :(

Always worth a try though.

I could always photograph the ones I'm thinking of and send them over. Put them on the same screen make it easier. *shrugs* Of course that wouldn't alter the cameras colour settings which may be different....

Hi Threadbear, I hate to throw you a spanner, but compared with my skeins the more purple one, the one with the bit of thread wound the other way looks more like 208.
I have nothing that seems to match the pink at all :thinks:

DMC 3770 is a very light tawny shade.

The right-hand purple is definitely 208 (I have it!). Is the other 155? Or 340 (I have that too, and it looks very close: quite blue rather than the 208 which is redder?)

This is a very useful site: http://www.dmc-usa.com/majic/pageServer ... e-117.html#
