Hmmm, was hoping the being too busy to check might inspire some luck - unfortunately only on 4/10 even with all those numbers. Will be keeping fingers crossed for this week :D

I don’t really like Mondays; here are the 2 rolls (a coincidence!):

8 CER-2 Electronic digital computer

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CER-2" target="_blank

CER (Serbian: Цифарски Електронски Рачунар – Digital Electronic Computer) model 22 was an early digital computer developed by Mihajlo Pupin Institute (Serbia) in 1960s. CER-2 was a prototype computer model only.

15 Harvard Mark II

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvard_Mark_II" target="_blank

The Harvard Mark II was an electromechanical computer built at Harvard University under the direction of Howard Aiken and was finished in 1947. It was financed by the United States Navy.
The Mark II was constructed with high-speed electromagnetic relays instead of electro-mechanical counters used in the Mark I, making it much faster than its predecessor. Its addition time was 0.125 seconds (8 Hz) and the multiplication time was 0.750 seconds. This was a factor of 2.6 faster for addition and a factor 8 faster for multiplication compared to the Mark I. It was the second machine (after the Bell Labs Relay Calculator) to have floating-point hardware. A unique feature of the Mark II is that it had built-in hardware for several functions such as the reciprocal, square root, logarithm, exponential, and some trigonometric functions. These took between 5 and 12 seconds to execute.

Day 8 & it looks like there are a few of y’all on the upper side of 5! Will we have a winner soon???

Had my son roll for me again & here’s what came up:

13 Flat screen monitor
I had debated whether to put CRT monitor or flat screen in to the BINGO game. I figured no one wants to remember those clunky, cumbersome Cathode Ray tube monitors! We did hang on to ours for AGES after the flat screens came out (they worked…they sucked up the electricity, but they did work) we’ve had our flat screens for about 18 months now & I have to say I am soooooooooo glad DH went to NewEgg & got them for us. The upgrade of hardware can be a tough decision to make. If what you have works, why “fix” something that’s not broken? But I think I learned the hard way that energy consumption wise, we would have been better off going with the flat screens much sooner then we did.

20 Punch card

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punch_card" target="_blank" target="_blank

A punched card, punch card, IBM card, or Hollerith card is a piece of stiff paper that contains digital information represented by the presence or absence of holes in predefined positions.
Now obsolete as a recording medium, punched cards were widely used throughout the 19th century for controlling textile looms and in the late 19th and early 20th century for operating fairground organs and related instruments. They were used through the 20th century in unit record machines for input, processing, and data storage. Early digital computers used punched cards, often prepared using keypunch machines, as the primary medium for input of both computer programs and data.

I remember when a large company donated boxes full of used punch cards to the Art Dept. of my Elementary school. I just didn’t “get” how they holes in them could tell a computer something (but then again, I’m still not certain I understand how computer chips work today!)

:) Long ago and far away when I was an undergraduate, I worked for a grad student and one of my jobs was doing the keypunching, card duplicating and taking a stack of the cards to the BIG MAINFRAME for running the stats for her thesis. Then going back to the computer dept, picking up the completed run (usually a day or two later) on those big reams of green and white paper. Part of her grant was $400 worth of computer time.
I think today on an Excel or Numbers spreadsheet it could all be done in seconds or maybe nanoseconds.
Oh yes, I got that one so I'm up to 7/10. This pick took me down memory Lane.

Ok, some of y’all are getting close! Will we have a BINGO call today? In honor of it being “hump day”, I’m rolling a bonus #!!!!

23 Security programs/Anti-Virus (AVG)

http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage" target="_blank" target="_blank

No one should go on the internet without an active anti-virus program in place. My own DH gets furious with me because I collect so many threats in the cookies my news websites & forums leave (I go to other ones besides this great place!)
His personal favorite is AVG. Their FREE VERSION is all he ever recommends to his “customers” (friends & relatives whose computers fall victim to different virus’; he usually finds that they don’t have an anti-virus program at all)

25 Sun Microsystems

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Microsystems" target="_blank" target="_blank
Sun Microsystems, Inc. was a company that sold computers, computer components, computer software, and information technology services. Sun was founded on February 24, 1982. At its height, Sun headquarters were in Santa Clara, California (part of Silicon Valley), on the former west campus of the Agnews Developmental Center.
On January 27, 2010, Sun was acquired by Oracle Corporation for US$7.4 billion, based on an agreement signed on April 20, 2009. The following month, Sun Microsystems, Inc. was merged with Oracle USA, Inc. to become Oracle America, Inc.
My own personal history includes a RABID computer professor (from my Community College days) who was FURIOUS at the shafting Sun got on their philosophy about operating systems (how they SHOULD be freeware & shared by all). Microsoft got the monopoly & Mr. Gates gets all our money for every “upgrade”….sometimes I wish Mr. Harley & Sun had won that little tiff!

29 Univac

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UNIVAC_I" target="_blank" target="_blank

The UNIVAC I (UNIVersal Automatic Computer I) was the first commercial computer produced in the United States. It was designed principally by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly, the inventors of the ENIAC. Design work was begun by their company, Eckert–Mauchly Computer Corporation, and was completed after the company had been acquired by Remington Rand (which later became part of Sperry, now Unisys). In the years before successor models of the UNIVAC I appeared, the machine was simply known as "the UNIVAC".
The first UNIVAC was delivered to the United States Census Bureau on March 31, 1951, and was dedicated on June 14 that year. The fifth machine (built for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission) was used by CBS to predict the result of the 1952 presidential election. With a sample of just 1% of the voting population it correctly predicted that Dwight D. Eisenhower would win.
