I oversew all the edges by hand, I often do it before I am ready to start the project, sometimes late at night when I am too tired to stitch x's, it does not take very long

Ah! But if you have enough fabric to begin with, it's simple to cut the tape away, leaving a nice clean, straight edge. Ta Da!

The way I work I would end up covered in it, I am using a 6" hoop on my project, the rest of the fabric is held out of the way with a hair toggle, like a ponytail
