What color of fabric would be best for my pattern???

Post by jazz298 »

Alright, so I have a pattern, and I am not sure what color of aida to use.

The picture is a sunset with the silhouette of a wolf. The sunset is well..oranges. And the wolf is solid black.

So I am not sure if I should use black facric, or an orangey/brown/beige colored fabric.

The pattern is stitched solid and there will be no fabric showing when it is finished.. does the color really matter???

It will depend on if you are going to have the edges uncovered when you finish or if you are planning to cover any and all of the edges right up to the stitching. If there is an edge then the fabric will make a big difference in how the finished picture will look.

No, I will be putting a matt when I frame it right up to the stitching.

Well then the fabric should not really matter all that much I think I would go with a light to medium brown, black is very hard to stitch on when it gets late and the orange may bleed through a bit with some of the lighter colors. So if I was you I would think of using a medium color. The other ladies may have some other ideas though so keep checking back.

By the way welcome to the forum it is fun to help newbies even if it is just with a color choice.

thank you.

I have been doing cross stitches since I can remember. I may be a newbie to the forum but I am by all means not a newbie to stitching! :D

A soft peach is my fabric of choice for what you've described.

Another colour possibility is a medium to deep blue. After all, what is the colour of the sky at that time of night?

It's strictly oranges in this picture, there is no blues at all. And then black for the silhouette.
