skype and stitch?

Post by rcj176 »

Has anyone sat on skype and stitched with each other? I get bored stitching by myself! And alot of stitchers are across the big pond and it would be cool to get to know someone in another country and learn from each other??

What a neat idea. I like it but sadly don't have skype and unlikely to either.

Hope someone else can join you though.

I don't have Skype, but Lisa and I often have a 'virtual' stitch night together using the chat box and others have joined in at times as well.

skype is easy and free to download..you need a webcam too for the video chat..but it has a phone call option...i have to find out more about it once I start finding more people that use it..didn't feel it was worth it with only one friend on my list..but this weekend when I get paid, I'll buy a cheap webcam and get it hooked up!

rcj176---which months of the year..the one from the book that has teacups, wreaths, etc in it?

this one?

if so, funny story..i didn't know what to do w/ it once finished so my friend bought it off of me for 50 bucks! lol..I had fun stitching it so I may do it again one day for me..lol

Skype was great for keeping in touch with our cousin that that in Italy last year! Sadly that laptop died.. when we get another one I'd love to join in on this.. I'm not from another country as you, but we'd have the north and south differences to probably make it feel like we are

I Skype and GMail video chat with my sister in Texas all the time.. never thought about it for stitching though.

Both systems are free.. but is seems that only one works at a time. So if Gmail is slow, we switch over to Skype.. or vice versa. I haven't figured out how to do a group chat though.

Ohh this sounds like a lot of fun! I'll have to get a webcam and join in! I don't have a local shop or group to stitch with so I stitch alone, but I would love to sit and stitch with others. I've read so many blog posts about the great times people have stitching with a group or at their LNS stitch nights, or at retreats and I would love to experience it myself. Sadly my disability makes travel very difficult so this Skype idea sounds like a great way to do it!

Is it set for a particular time or something like that?

Nothing is set yet. Try and get a webcam, they run about $15 I thinkn at Walmart or Big Lots. I don't know if you can do a group chat so we could just pair up with whoever is online at the time. I don't mind skype'ing with people here in the USA at all. If it is at night I will probably have my diet Mtn. Dew and jammies on and maybe kids around me too. They love the video chat and hog it sometimes! LOL

Coffee and I just tested the skype and it works brilliantly! If you don't have it you can download it for FREE at http://www.skype.com" target="_blank" target="_blank It is totally free to use too! Most laptops now have built in webcams and microphones. When you get set up, share your username on here so we can add you!
