Re: Cake Decorating
Wow, your cakes are beautiful, Busy! It's a shame starting up a business isn't feasible for you, I'd bet you'd sell lots!

Re: Cake Decorating
You do lovely cakes Busy_B
It is a bit different to work with buttercream and fondant.
I do buttercream once in a while, but fondant is the medium I like best.
As Norway allways have been difficult to get classes for this, I am a self thought cakedesigner. Now I keep classes for others.
Here we started wilton style cakes about 15 year ago. Before that noone knew what that was about.
We have a long tradition with cakes, but not with decorations.
Would love to see more from you

Re: Cake Decorating
Thank you, but they're no where as lovely as yours! I might get around to putting a few more pictures up soon, but we haven't had a lot of orders for cakes lately. Plus, I cheat when it comes to my kids' birthday cakes. They usually want certain characters (like son wanted Spiderman & daughter wanted Little Mermaid) so with doing housework and fixing the meal for the party, I don't always have a lot of time. I end up using the edible image sheets. They're icing sheets that you can put thru a computer printer used just for that reason that uses food coloring as ink.elin wrote:You do lovely cakes Busy_B

I some what think it's the opposite here. There's a lot of wilton classes, but fondant has been a small side class for quite a while. I think Wilton is really trying to bring more focus to fondant cakes since more than half of the cakes they do in their yearbook every year are fondant.

Re: Cake Decorating
Here are some more pictures of cakes that we've done over the last year or so:
This was a graduation cake that the graduate designed:
Baby shower cake:
Retirement cake:
Ordination cake (I did another one similar to this-just the book-over the weekend):
The next 2 were 2 of the 4 cakes we did for a wedding on 8/15. The couple were 80 years old and both widows. Adorable couple!! Never would have thought they were that old. The bride is half cherokee indian, so it was important to have the sunflowers. My mom did the first one, and I did the second--the poem was on their wedding invitation.
They also wanted a teepee for a centerpiece, so DH constructed it, and I did all the painting on it.
And lastly, this was Kailey's birthday cake. She turned 4 Aug. 16th.
I have another wedding cake to do this weekend (need to make the floral topper still), so I will try to get pictures of that up next week.

These cakes are really nice... I am planning to take baking courses as well and maybe bake my own cakes in the future
Re: Cake Decorating *pic added 1/9*
Here's a baby shower cake we did for New Year's Day. This year is starting off heavy with cakes already. We have a 2 tier wedding cake for the 16th (and we'll be doing a reception cake for them in April), and at least one more cake order in the next 2 weeks.
