fccs’s Fishing Friends 2024

Post by fccs »

This is the other kit my sister gave me (Inuk & Nanuk being the other one).

Image

I started it a couple days ago and progress is going to be slow. I’m stitching it on the same 18 count fabric I used for Inuk & Nanuk, and that might not have been a well thought out decision as this design has a lot (!) of fractionals. I don’t mind fractionals; they’re just easier when stitching on a fabric over two and they’ll slow me down a bit. Also, there’s a ton of back stitching, which isn’t my favorite, so I plan on doing it as I go.

(The fabric is MJCH lighter in person.)

Good start! I agree about the fractionals. Much easier when stitching over 2. Also harder on Aida (is that the fabric? I couldn’t quite tell). My Star Wars Afghan figures also have some frctionals and it’s 18 ct but the fabric is loosely woven enough that it isn’t that difficult.

These two Eskimo pieces are absolutely perfect together. And I know it will be fun!

Yep, it’s 18 count Aida. So far piercing the threads for the fractionals hasn’t been difficult, just more time consuming than when stitching over two. I do think it’s going to be a fun design, but I will definitely need to take breaks. That’s not a huge issue because I’m rather fickle and tend to work on several WIPs at once.

Wow, eight plus months later, here’s an update. I picked it up yesterday and got a few stitches in. Hey, even a little progress is progress, right? This one has so many fractionals, and so much back stitching, that it’s definitely slow going.

Progress is progress is progress. :applesauce: :applesauce: Getting one new stitch in a project counts. I read your first post again and repeat what I said then. Doing fractional on aida cloth is far from easy, especially on a higher count (18) fabric. It is looking good and it's fun to see this again.

I worked on this today while watching the Super Bowl. I didn’t put in a lot of stitches during the 2nd half and OT. I obviously have failed to update my progress regularly because I promise you I did not make much progress today. I really like the design but I have to say the fractionals make it slow going. I don’t think I’ve worked a design with this many quarter stitches.

Its looking good, where you have already done the backstitching you can even see the edge of the fur on their hat :applesauce:

Question: I can see why you have added the vertical running lines but what are the squares for?

Jo

Thanks! The backstitching is very effective, and there is so much of it (kind of like those darned fractionals) that I will do it as I go.

As for the squares....I don't really remember why I did those. The bottom horizontal line of the squares is the center of the design, but why I made boxes....not a clue. :thinks:
