It was not accidentally, I bought two because I made such a mistake that it was cheaper to buy a second kit and start all over again than to unpick and "correct". Plus I would need extra threads anyway after all the unpicking.

@Mabel

How did I miss all those colourful threads???

Of course you had to buy them all, 25% off! Bargain!
At least you won't have to rush out again just for one as you did with the grey. How 'awful' to have to buy fabric to make it worthwhile. @rotfl: @rotfl:

I'm seriously considering leaving them on skeins, and perhaps sliding them onto hinged rings in groups of colours, like my crewel wools.

 Its arrived... I saw "Just for you" and I had to have it

Image

Then they were doing their 14 count white Aida at a good price and I hate the spotty stuff that comes with the Bothy Thread designs so into the basket that went and I still was no where near the £40 for free delivery so it just happened

Image

Yes I brought a second one  and I have already modified it to be taller. I threw away the short little screw they provided to screw the base to the column and put a longer screw in there to provide a bit more strength (threaded sections used for securing should be 1 1/2 times as long as the diameter of the thread to avoid damaging the thread  ) Then the split pin was seen as a knee graze hazard  so that has been replaced and of course the use of bare bar handles cause fatigue so some bigger ends had to be added to those so my old one and its bits:

And the new one:

The new one is somewhat lighter than the original. I will have to report back on my preference.

Jo

P.S. I won't mention that NOW they provided me with a money off code for Lowery items, I needed that before I paid for it :tantrum:

That's quite some fettling you've done! Glad you're getting them to work to your liking. But how annoying about the money-off code!

I love your modifications, and a second Lowery will by very useful! As for the discount code…ugh. I hate it when that happens.

Some interesting new threads to play with - shashiko cottons. I blame Serinde :-)

Thank you, thank you. There's different way of opening the skein, as they aren't pull skeins. You can find out how online, but basically you open up the thread as if it were a bit skein of yarn, find the place where the knot is and then cut through the entire bundle. Then, holding the cut ends together, do the same at the other end. This will give you perfect lengths for stitching sashiko, anyway.

To store the thread, twist bundle from each end in opposite directions, then let it twist back on itself. This also gives you a pull skein if you take the thread from the top.

Is that ball the "thin" thread? I'd be very interested in how it compares to pearl cotton.

Good to know - Yes, I was rather going to treat it like my skeins of crewel wool. The ball is their thin thread, and looks remarkably like perle #8 only matt. I haven't actually opened the packages yet - haven't had time - but I've got a variegated green on order which I thought might work for someof the trees in my canvaswork.

Yes, that's a key thing about sashiko threads, apparently -- they are matt. So using pearls or usual 6-strand goes against the tradition because they tend to be mercerised. Flower threads might work well, though.

Lakeside had Q snaps back in stock so I treated myself to an 11 inch one with 14 inch extension. Interested to see how they are compared to the R & R frames I normally use 🤔😉
