Ah, the day after St Nicholas Eve - so it must be time to put the Christmas decorations up! Friends of ours have managed to find a Christmas-light Nativity to put in the garden, and we thought we might get one too until we looked them up online and saw the price tag  that poor lowly stable has rather gone up in value!

Exactly so, Mabel. (Or in our house, a very short period of grace between the last birthday and the start of "the season", since anyone who's anyone has a midwinter festival of some sort. The more the merrier!)

Whew. The weavers group decided not to meet tomorrow -- all rather last minute, but taken because Public Health Scotland isn't keen on people getting together unnecessarily before Christmas. Might have felt differently if (1) we had all been together a lot and knew no one was harbouring Omicron and (2) a member hadn't been in touch with her disquiet. We have quite a few older members as well as ones with health issues, so it seemed sensible, if sad. However, we'll set up the ubiquitous Zoom tomorrow morning to at least have something of a chat and show what we've been weaving, spinning and dyeing. *sigh*

It's sad that this is the second festive season so affected by Covid. Because our embroidery group has several members who are well into their 80s, we've decided that this year's Christmas lunch is going to be at the house of one of us, with everyone bringing something for the buffet (my contribution is marmalade gammon) and testing beforehand - that should be safe enough.

We meet in a really quite Covid-safe space in the craft rooms of a local library. I suspect it would have been fine, but... abundance of caution and all that. At least everyone will avoid the rain forecast for tomorrow.

Hope your embroidery group's lunch is simply lovely and full of Christmas spirit.

Our craft group used to meet in the local village Kirk ( church), until it became too cold. :cold: :cold:
It's now moved to the community centre in the next village... warmer and with" facilities" as well as tea making equipment.
It was decided to take a break over the festive season and start up again 12th January.

The fresh evergreen swags are up, with holly and berries. The lights are perfect. There are refreshments of your choice on the buffet table (the satsumas are particularly juicy), and :coffee:, :tea: and mulled :wine: if you fancy. Fire has drawn well -- there's a bit of wind outside ruffling the loch.

Sounds just right, and very "gezellig", if I may introduce one of those not-easy-to-translate words (cosy, convivial, comfortable, all that and more :-) )

I'll have a glass of mulled wine, and an early oliebol please. (PS, it's more of a batter than a dough)

That sounds perfect. After reading about what looks totally scrumptious, I want one. Sooner rather than later.
