I finished another quillow today. This one is extra special because it’s made from my son’s childhood sheets: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on one side, Garfield on the other, and trains for the pocket. He’s 38 and I’m pretty sure he has no idea I kept those sheets; I plan on giving this to him and my daughter-in-law. They have no kids but I think they’ll still appreciate having it. I have to say, I’m quillow’d out for now. Next up...my last round (hopefully) of masks, plus turning some of my finished cross stitch pieces into bell pulls, pillows, and whatever else I can come up with.

That's a wonderful idea for your son and DIL. And I look forward to all the finishes, too.

A very meaningful quilt, and I love the idea of snugly putting your feet in the "pillowcase" bit!

Quillows are great and have been around for quite a while over here. And Debby is right about putting your feet in the pocket for a bit of extra warmth. I got 2 years and years ago. The mother of one of my co-workers used to make and sell them. In addition to warm feet, the pocket of the quillow is a great place for a kitten to hide during a thunderstorm and drive her owners nuts looking for her.

I think your son is so going to love this gift and be so shocked you saved those sheets. A great idea!!!

Amazing. Never heard of Quillow's either before this. They look brilliant Debby. I suspect my youngest daughter would love one. Her favourite item at the moment is a large blanket with sleeves, so she can keep it wrapped around her a lot more easily.

Thinking of other odd garments, my brother once had a Norwegian Sniper's sleeping bag (he was in the Territorial Army once - the UK equivalent of the US National Guard) and came back from exercise in Norway with it one year. It's an eider feather filled sleeping bag shaped like a mummy and can be done up to leave only the face free. It also has quilted arms with built in mittens. The right mitten can fold back to reveal a built in silk glove with the trigger finger also able to fold back to give perfect feedback.. My brother said he remained comfortable in a tent overnight in it with -40C/-40F outside and no heating in the tent.

Regards,

Richard
