I imagine you told Lexi that the baby in the pouch is really going to be her to make sure she approved of the design? Or did she say for a few extra treats and some catnip, she would accept the fact that there is no feline presence in the design? After all, many of your projects don't include cats and they are beautiful.

Everything I've done so far - attaching the silk to the calico, painting the design on, stab stitching along all the design lines to bond the two layers, sewing on the padding - won't be visible at the end of the module. This is a bit dispiriting... Still, it's all necessary preparation!

I have one more layer of felt to do on the leg/haunch, but it's quite a fiddly one so I'm waiting for some good light; and then soft string padding on the tail.

Gosh Mabel that is a lot of work, I can understand why it's dispiriting, however it is so important to the beauty of your stitching, the amount of time, care and effort you put into all your works are what make the finished design stand out so much.

Personally I would give you top marks already, your pieces for the Certificate are outstanding.

I can't wait to see more of Bruce.

It's all part of the process of preparing a new masterpiece.
Worth it and the results will be magnificent! :whoop:

there are already three layers of felt on the haunch and it's making a very satisfactory and tactile bump :-)

To me, the most repelling in this art is the process of preparing. :D Plus one needs the patience of an angel. As for the start, it looks great.

Agree. Hardly have the discipline for any prep.

As someone who for most of her stitching life considered "prep" to be bunging a piece of fabric in a hoop and grabbing some nice colours, this Certificate stuff comes as a bit of a shock, I can tell you :-)

Now imagine what it would be like to someone whose "preparation" means grabbing the fabric and scissors and the work box with the threads for the project! :D

I completely agree. Even the bombinating of thread takes patience for me.

There is so much going on in that picture, so much work into the prep alone gone right over my head :thinks:

But it’s looking so neat, looking forward to the progress

Finished Bruce's leg padding!
Hoping to sample a blunt-ended soft string padding today, but we've got an online funeral, several Zoom meetings for DH during which I am on "office duty" and an unexpected vet visit (Lexi has a sore leg) so I may have to do that in class tomorrow.

How interesting. Like an anatomy lesson. And you seem to get good natural light even on a grey day.

Yes, I suppose it is a bit like a reverse dissection :-).
Floor-to-ceiling windows definitely help, although in the morning, when it was raining, even that didn't do the trick. Fortunately the weather cheered up after lunch.

We've got a tail! Well, the padding for one :-) It's remarkable how long all this is taking, but I am pleased with the shape of it, and I know it will make the gold laid over it look that much better.

I did actually manage a little gold as well, but I haven't got a good picture of it.
