Husband needs help....how much fabric?

Post by felicity53 »

Greetings. My husband will soon have a problem & needs your assistance. It's my twin sisters birthday soon...I don't have birthdays any more. I'm quite happy stopping at 39!.....but will be buying ME a present anyway. I'm hoping to start a new Long Dog Sampler soon having already done The Stag Hunt & Castles In The Air. This time it will be The Templer Prophcey. I will be stitches it on 25 count evenweave. The pattern is 327 x 341 stitches. How much fabric will he need for this surprise present? Thanks. x

Now that's the sort of surprise I like, the sort that is definitely welcome :-)

Are you stitching over 1 or over 2?

If over 1: 327 x 341 stitches /25 = a little over 13" by a little under 14" for the stitching, add at least 3" in both directions and preferable a bit more, say 4", that would be about 18" square.

If over 2 the stitched area will be twice as large (26 1/4" x 27 1/4") so you'd need at least 31" square.
Hope that helps!

This calculator is for those of us who are terrible at math. There is also one that you can add to a mobile phone and/or tablet. I have used it so many times, I can't imagine being without it.
