You've been watching QI? Yes, they did, but for various reasons in Spain: so you could get your documents and defence together to prove you (as a former Jew or even Moor -- a Muslim) were now a good and practicing Christian (because probably one of your neighbours said that you were secretly holding to your old faith -- sometimes out of spite, but not always) or to give you time to get out of Spain... not that you'd be much welcome anywhere else in Europe (the Habsburgs held not only Spain but eventually the Netherlands and the Holy Roman Empire) and Jews had been banned from England in 1290.
