travel
[Seems a non sequitur, but the Voyager spacecraft launched over 40 years ago will be travelling for an eternity. Current indications are that they may not enter another star's solar system during the 4 billion year remaining lifetime of the sun. The first encounter Voyager 2 will have is in 40000 years, when it will get to within 1.8 LIGHT YEARS (17 thousand billion km/10.5 thousand billion miles) of another star. That is travelling for an eternity on any scale. If you're interested, take a look at this article: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/news ... e-science/]
Regards,
Richard.

(@Richard: One of my favorite tv shows on the Science Channel is "How the Universe Works" and another is Spaces' Deepest Secrets. I am fascinated by the subject and always have been. However, my scientific and mathematical abilities were far from what would have been required to pursue a career in astronomy. Astrology probably would have been more in line with my capabilities. )

Plughole
"Liquor & Plughole?", I hear you ask. Weekend before last we took a good look at all the alcohol we have in the house. We don't drink much, much less than in the past (which wasn't a lot in the first place). I get 2 bottles of wine a year from work, always French, always one red and one white. The red is, as are all French red wines I have come across, barely nice enough to cook with, and utterly undrinkable. The white is possible to drink but with a shudder. Anyway, we found 12 bottles of red, 9 of white. Every now and again we are given bottles of stuff we just put away and forget. We may drink a bottle of German wine every two months, and a bottle of sherry and ginger wine every 3 years. We all loathe most spirits.
In our drinks cabinet, we found some 15 year old home made blackberry wine (not made by us, given to us when we moved here by an old neighbour). Then we discovered some solid Bailey's Irish cream where the cream component had solidified, some cloudy apricot brandy, beer that had turned reddish, and many other expired alcoholic beverages in various states of decay. The red wines are going to be inflicted on people we dislike, we'll keep the white and cook with it. All the other expired drink went down the Plughole, 20 bottles or so, well, all the stuff that could be poured out of its bottle.
I love listening/reading/watching anything on the exploration space programs. I had the privilege of designing the transport box for the Beagle 2 Mars probe. We were all so disappointed when it went splat on the surface. NASA has taken photos of the lander. One theory to explain its failure is that it seems as if it got to the surface wrapped in its inflatable airbag cushioning, hit the edge of a small rocky crater which shredded the bags, and bounced horizontally towards the other edge, which then due to the shredded airbags resulted in an impact that was too great for it. The other possibility is that it landed between two rocks and was not able to deploy the solar cell needed to keep the lander warm enough to survive the first Martian night.
Regards,
Richard.

Sinkhole
I think with that much booze you just poured away you need one of these!!
We are so lucky here. The local reds are superb. I wish I could send you some!
When we move North we shall miss the wine.

On
(Vision On used to be a kids art television programme on the BBC with a little plasticine figure called 'Morph' which seems to have inspired the Wallace & Grommet films.)
Helene, we get enough odd things happening here for drunk rats not even to register as unusual!
Regards,
Richard.
