Jacobean designs are beautiful and your stitching makes this even more beautiful. I did a Jacobean one years ago and seeing yours makes me want to do another.

Thank you Lovelies for all your kind replies.

Update time, I've finished the bottom half after a lovely weekend of stitching.

Thanks to our lovely Lyudmila for the chart, and she was right, I will be stitching this beauty again for a Birthday later in the year, this one is mine, all mine.

I really enjoyed this one, the colours and shapes and the flowing lines. So unusual and I will be really interested to see our Mabel's interpretaion of a Jacobean flower (in the English style? split and stem? ) after stitching this one.

:whoop: :whoop: That is oh so beautiful and colourful Maureen and you have stitched it so very beautifully too as always. It is going to look amazing hanging on one of your walls. How lovely you are going to do it again as a present too, so we can enjoy watching it grow again. :mexicanwave: :mexicanwave: :mexicanwave: :mexicanwave: :mexicanwave:

Congratulations on the great finish, Maureen. Your neat and perfect stitching makes it look even better than it usual does. Does anybody know who/ or which firm of designers is the designer of this bellpull? And why dont they create more cross -stitch Jacobean pieces? As it is, I am stitching this again- 1/4 done so far.

I wonder what your next project will be, Maureen? Happy stitching!

Thank you Lovelies for all your kind replies.

I really enjoyed this one.

Lyudmila, I had another look at the magazine pages you so kindly sent me and I can't see anything that looks like a name. English magazines usually say designed by........, but I can't find anything that looks like the name of a designer.

I wonder if there aren't many Jacobean designs around because they are mostly done in Crewel work, with wools or silks rather than cross stitch, I don't know, I wonder if our Mabel or Serinde with their Guild connections would be able to find out. :thinks:

Lots of Jacobean in crewel work (some people use the terms interchangeably, although that's not strictly speaking correct) - in fact this design could easily be done in crewel wool on twill, and would look beautifully authentic!

Mabel, of course, it would look authentic in crewel work, but I would like to be able to cross stitch other Jacobean designs :)

Lyudmila, they look beautiful in cross stitch and I quite understand you'd like to do more of them!
I'm afraid I misunderstood something Garnet said. She remarked (and I think it's a very good point) "I wonder if there aren't many Jacobean designs around because they are mostly done in Crewel work" - and I mistook that for a question about whether they were available in crewel work.

One thing which might help if you can't find "ready-made" Jacobean cross stitch patterns is to find a picture of a crewel piece and convert it to cross stitch, for example using Richard's program.

Thank you for the advice. I somehow did not think about this way out. They are really so beautiful that even cross stitch does not make them look worse. If I were at least 20 years younger, I would try and learn to do crewel work, as it is, I dont have time. Plus, an old dog cant be taught new tricks, I am afraid.

As many of us have, I have been stitching whilst the forum has been down and this one was for a friend, already gifted
Image
it's 5 x 5 the photo is a bit fuzzy as it's under glass and there is so much white (Ithink)

and also for the same friend
Image
This was by Durene Jones and was on FB, as I am not on FB I emailed her and she kindly sent me the chart! :whoop: for Durene Jones, as this was for a male friend I left off the beads and changed the metallic thread to Etoile. They were both well received and have gone in his home office.

This one is for me and again is 5 x 5
Image
This is in the same Joan Elliott Book as the Celtic Wheel of the Year I stitched and posted in my re-introduction.

I am currently stitching Joan Elliott's The Gardener although I haven't taken a photo yet.

Maureen, you have certainly been very busy!
Congrats on these beautiful finished pieces. I have also looked on Google for your newest piece, and I'm really looking forward to seeing your stitching on that one, too!
