My goodness Maureen, you are making great progress with this gorgeous one and I love seeing it each time. Please do continue with the updates to the finish - it would be such a sadness not to see it finished. :)

Wow, Maureen! I have been away and am amazed of your progress :applesauce: :applesauce:
You caught the expression of the characters just right. It is such a tricky think to do. I love his jacket and her dress, blowing in the wind. This is a fantastic project and you have the perfect place to display it once finished.
Looking forward to the next update.... :D

Only a small update, because sad to say every time I put needle to fabric on this all the hurt comes back.
I was so looking forward to doing the heathers as well, that was going to be a challenge to get stuck into, but now, well, all the heart and enjoyment has gone out of it.
I am trying VERY hard to keep in mind all your encouragement, but it is very upsetting to have one's choice of subject criticised. It was the last thing I expected on the forum, constructive criticism of my stitching, yes absolutely, but subject no.

I wasn't sure where to put this, as it was stitched earlier in the year, but I only gave it to the Bride this week, she liked it.

Regarding the bridal picture...
Wot? Where are the handcuffs?
Looks good, though. One of the best colour graduations I've seen in that sort of image. Superb picture.
Congratulations.

I do apologize for the literary criticism. Had no idea you'd take it to heart, and it was simply what I thought of the book - I really wasn't expecting anyone to care two hoots about what I think, as no-one does normally. . I like the Wuthering Heights picture, the stitching is remarkable, and you are doing a superb job on it.

Regards,

Richard.

I'm so sorry to hear you've lost the love Maureen and I understand it's alright for us to say "keep going it's looking great" or "Please carry on with it" but we are not the one stitching it. I adore the framed gift it's just gorgeous xxx

Maureen, I would understand if you reacted to some expert's comments on the quality of the work, neatness of stitches, etc. But where it comes to choosing a project, each is to his/her own, and this is great. Just imagine if we all were the same and loving the same things. The world would be the dullest place.
Personally I would also stitch something connected with the Brontes because I have the full collection of their books at home (in one thick book) and I did visit the Parsonage Museum in Haworth, filmed the High Street there and spent the whole afternoon trying to find all the interesting places there. I dont know about England, but in Ukraine every decent young lady would have read Jane Eyre and often- more than once. So to me this theme is also very dear and personal. Whatever said here, I am sure nobody means to offend another stitcher.

We always look forward to your updates. Happy stitching!

@ Richard - When I stitched the Wedding picture earlier this year I actually thought "I'll bet RichardandTracey could do a better job of this gradient with his computer programme" and you did make me laugh with your handcuffs comment.

Thank you for the apology. There is no handshake smilie - so I offer you a metaphorical handshake. I respect your skills and your stitching, you are skilled in so many areas and your posts are always interesting to read, Gryff is simply awesome (pawsome?), to write a computer programme and then stitch him the way you are is amazing, and I suspect you are more than a little self-effacing. Please accept that compliment in the spirit in which it was offered.

@Lyudmila - I have been to the Bronte Parsonage too, did you know they have built a musuem on to the side of the original building?, when I first heard of it I was like,"pah, that will ruin it", but actually unless you had seen the original building you would not know the extension had been built, it is that sympathetically done, apart from the angle or pitch of the roof that is, from ground level it looks like it has always been there.
The hill up to the Parsonage is one heck of a climb isn't it?
Wuthering Heights by Emily and Jane Eyre by Charlotte are my favourites although I do have all of the Bronte novels.
I do not know what in England is considered at exam level as I am in Wales and it has been a VERY long time since I was at school :D
I do not know how long it will take to finish Wuthering Heights, maybe not even this year, but when it is finished Lyudmila if you pm me I could send you the original chart from the magazine if you would like it.

I will say I am rather pleased with Heathcliff and Cathy's hands, though Cathy's mouth was a pain to backstitch and it took 4 attempts to get it looking decent (and ignoring the chart!)

I just have to agree the wedding picture is so simple, yet so elegant. No wonder the wife loved it.

Also the backstitching on your other piece is just fantastic. I especially love the scarf she is wearing.

Love the bright sweet peas Garnet & Wuthering Heights is coming along nicely. :applesauce:

As regards books/subjects, we all have our own choices, part of life's rich tapestry. If we all chose the same theme life would be most tedious. I have read the Bronte books & enjoyed them. Enjoyed Dr Who on TV do not read Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings as not my genre but if someone stitched either on here as their choice of subject, then fine, I would like to see their stitching & colours used. I'll say no more about literary choice. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder if you like it that is all that matters. The colours are lovely, esp the mauve heathers, & it is something different. I am not as clever as many on here but I do know my manners, & when to hold my tongue! Obviously some don't worry about hurting others this is why I have been wary about joining forums a someone always spoils it & before I get struck off here don't worry I wont be on again!!!!!

I agree, that was well below the belt & even though an apology was given & accepted it still leaves a mark inside where the hurt was felt & something like that about TWO PICTURES will never ever b e forgotten by the person on the receiving end or the readers

I too am surprised the post in question being so critical & rude was not deleted. It is in the rules about being considerate to other members which really goes without saying but oh no it was posted even tho about two projects, & stayed there so why are the rules nt adhered to, no offensive material what a joke, ha ha ha ha. If that was not offensive I do not know what is!! We do not all have rhinoceros skins. Am away now too. With friends like that who needs enemies I certainly don't!!

Izzi & Polly,

Thank you for your kind comments on my stitching, all comments are greatly appreciated.

In relation to the hurt, that is for me and only me to get through.

On forums there are all kinds of people and sometimes things will be said that can cause offence - these are reported and are usually dealt with by mods.
Hurt on the other hand is a rather personal thing, therefore no need to be reported or deleted and in this case, having said how much hurt had been caused the other person apologised and said it was unwittingly done. The apology was accepted and a hand of friendship offered.
I think this also shows how we can agree to disagree (on literary matters too ).
I see this as an example of how to resolve issues on a forum and to me it shows a willingness to be friendly that has been sadly lacking on other forums where much nastier things were said in the past.

This forum is the nicest I have ever been on. On the whole people are a helpful, encouraging, enabling friendly bunch and given time I think you may see that for yourselves.

I do hope you can see the reasons to stay rather than see this as a reason to leave.
