Re: Heatwave
We had about 30 seconds of rain....
It was probably my fault that it stopped, as I went out and danced in it

Re: Heatwave
It's been a long time since we have had so many days of continuous high temps and high humidity. Hope there's a break coming soon.

Re: Heatwave
Don't want to brag but had another heavy shower last night.
Someone told me yesterday we had very hot weather for 2 weeks early spring 2000 & also a lovely summer. They had family occasion that's why they remember the year.

Re: Heatwave
We've had rain - looks like more to come but it has done that several days, low cloud but nothing then yesterday had heavy showers on & off all day. Believe there is going to be hose pipe ban in NW which includes this part of Wales I think.
Garden looks refreshed & I'm catching up with things now. Too sticky in evenings to do anything;no stitching no knitting, just read or watch TV.
Hope everyone all OK.

Re: Heatwave
Yea! Wooh-Hoo and Yipee! we FINALLY have rain and it is blessedly cooler although it is going to heat up again from Sunday onwards.
For those who have wondered where I was, the heat made me really ill, along with thyroid and other health issues I was very unwell with a form of heatstroke despite not going outside. I am still struggling but the cooler weather is helping.
I remember the summer of '76, the pavements in liverpool had been re-surfaced and it was so hot the pavements were melting and bubbling up and I can still remember the "splut" sound those bubbles made as they burst. So many shoes ruined that people learned to walk nearer the gutter/ road line. I remember the hosepipe ban and some areas running dry altogether and having to go to water stations and fill up large bottles and any other containers that would hold water.
I hope we don't get it as bad this time, we are simply not accustomed to it, or prepared for it only getting weather like this once in 40 years.
But Yea we have rain, oh and two weeks ago the weather forecaster said we were going to have rain, but we didn't get much here, only a few raindrops on the patio and that was it, but today we have the proper wet stuff

Re: Heatwave
Watered garden directly I got up - it started raining an hour later & has carried on most of the morning. Farmers having to buy in fodder for their animals now the water rationing next week, very hard for them & other growers.

Re: Heatwave
Thanks Marigold.
I spoke too soon, the rain has stopped and the humidity is growing, this often happens here, the rain fronts seem to part and go around us.
We are about half a mile from Hawarden as the crow flies which often tops the weather charts as the warmest place in Britian, so many times this year we have had temps of 30c+ and goodness knows the gardens and fields could certainly use it. I predict the price of fruit and vegetables will rise because of all this heat.

Re: Heatwave
We've had storms this week, luckily no damage! But it has been very noisy at night with rain, hail and thunder crashing above us.
A bit cooler today thank goodness, but lots of leaves and plums to sweep up!
Sorry to hear that you've been affected by the heat and humidity, Garnet. I hate the high temps that we get here too. The older I get the less I can cope with it!

Re: Heatwave
Know where Hawarden is Garnet, can understand weather fronts differ your way; as you are nearer England, towards Chester, so weather would be different around there. We get winds swirling, not swirling weather fronts! In v. hot weather could not see high places because of heat hazes. Then, when rain due mists descended over the higher areas. Always changing scenery
Have a lovely DMC kit, really it is of Scotland from a painting by Felix someone or other, but it reminds me of weather & mountains in Snowdonia itself. It is called Setting Out, black faced sheep, brooding weather clouds over the mountains & lovely heather in foreground foliage.
What noisy nights you have had with the bad storms Wendy. A shame about fruit trees getting blown about & fruit dropping. Hope you can retrieve some of the fruits. It's especially bad for farmers in fruit growing areas as well as flatteningfarmers' crops unless harvest is already safely in.

Re: Heatwave
rained most of yesterday, Friday, had more overnight. Looks like just starting again. Sooo much cooler, thank goodness. Bit darker so maybe we'll have a storm. But, it is really good to be able to move about as normal & to see garden plants responding to the rain, they must be glad not to have to deal with that heat Noticed new flowers on some shrubs this morning, begonias more flowers too, whole garden seems to have come on overnight

Re: Heatwave
Good to see you back on here, Garnet!
In 1976, at the seaside in France, we were covered in ladybirds. By the way, I have not seen many ladybirds this year...
Not a drop of rain in London,, so far.

Re: Heatwave
We have another hot and humid week ahead. This also comes with thunderstorms, often bringing heavy rain and strong wind. Of course that also means sauna like humidity as well. Damn it.8

Re: Heatwave
How awful, Saw on the news Japan has heatwave, approx. 107 degrees after the recent flooding & several people ended up in hospital. Hope you can manage to keep cool.
Wales has no hosepipe ban as yet but driest June in Wales for many years think it said on TV since 1940s.
Garnet hope you will be feeling better now temps are lower. The stitching you have put on here is very pretty. Love the squirrel. The other one will be lovely too once stitched.

Re: Heatwave
Poppy, I had forgotten the Ladybirds! They were everywhere, I remember trying to get them out of the windows before going to bed. I haven't seen many this year either, nor Butterflies now I come to think of it.
Daisy, thank you for your kind words about my stitching, I won't be framing the Squirrel until the Fox, Hedgehogs and Owl are stitched, then I might frame them altogether.
Last night we had a power cut just as we were sitting down to eat (luckily I had just finished cooking), it lasted well over an hour so I managed to do some more of the Stonework on W.H. Every cloud eh?
It is very muggy here today, and not much wind to move the air around. I also heard it is going to hotter this week, I'm not looking forward to it.
