Substitution question

Post by Roland »

I am following a pattern that asks for Anchor Reflecta 300. I cannot find it anywhere, and ordering is to expensive.

I have Rainbow Blending Thread 407. (When I looked it up, it says brass, but it looks gold to me.)

I am using 2 threads over 2 on 28 ct, which makes it 14 ct. (Makes sense?)

I was thinking 1 thread and 2 Blending Thread in place of the Reflecta. Is anyone familiar with Reflecta and how thick it is.

I am not familiar with it, but.....can you do a few sample stitches in the margin or on a scrap of the same fabric to see if you like it and it compares to the sample image of the pattern?

I think what I’m going to do is a small section with two blending threads. I’ll decide if I like it or if I want to blend.

Roland, I have just had a look at a picture of Reflecta and it seems to be a metallic gold thread so I imagine that any metallic gold thread - as in the Rainbow Gallery range would substitute for it quite ok..

As Allyn says stitch a sample with what you have available and if you like the look of it, go with that!

What ever you chose don't forget to use Short Lengths!! Metallics fray Horribly!! I also fasten them to the needle with a loop to stop them slipping off.

Roland, I have Reflecta 301 (which is silver, so no help), and it's slightly thinner than DMC #4 very fine braid.

I wouldn't substitute 'brass' for 'gold' metallic, however.

It’s silver? How odd. When I googled the picture looked gold.

The main thing it’s used for is the top of Christmas’s tree decorations, where you would put a hook. I tried two strands of what I have, and I hate the look. I think I have some sparkly silver thread I’ll give it a try.

Serenade, thank you for telling me it was supposed to be silver.

I had started collecting DMC Light Effects and E168 looks much better. I do not like working with Light Effects, but I’ll just do a bit, then regular threads, then back to the LE.

Eek! :tizzy: I think there might be some confusion. The Reflecta thread that your design calls for is number 300 -- which is GOLD. You'll need to substitute a gold thread.

The Reflecta in MY stash is number 301 which is Silver -- not what you want at all. I just wanted to give you an indication of its size so you could judge what might be a good substitute.

Nothing scissors won’t take care of.

I might have to put this away and work on something else for awhile.

Honestly though....this does look better than the blending thread.

And, I do see that I misunderstood what you posted. My error.

Not to worry. Just so long as it's all been worked out. :D

It actually wasn’t to difficult to pull out. Then I just worked on another part if the picture for a while. I have picked up a gold Light Effects. Will start it later this week probably.

Anchor reflecta thread is one of their metallic range. I looked it up on my search engine and it shows it on e-bay(not a site I use). It is a gold colour, so all can suggest is that you put it into your search engine as reflecta threads and you should come up with the same results I saw.
