Ending thread
How do you all finish your thread, with waste knots, leaving tails or some other way?

Re: Ending thread
I always loop it a couple of times under a few stitches (usually the same colour or one similar nearby) and then snip it as close as possible

Re: Ending thread
Under 3, back over 1 and then continue back under 2.
Basically as Nicola said.

Richard.

Under a few stitches and then weave it back under 1 or 2.

Re: Ending thread
I use a modified pin stitch on the front both to start and to end my threads. I can't bear having lots of little tails in the way. Although bizarrely, I'm happy to have several hundred parked threads. Go figure ...

Re: Ending thread
On tablecloths and tablerunners which are often washed, all the threads have to be ended properly- I draw the needle through the loop (a sliding loop or what is the English for it?) and then do what Nicola and Richard do.

Re: Ending thread
For regular stitched things, I use waste knots. I like the tail to be a part of the tension in subsequent stitches instead of stitching, having good tension and then trying to jam the needle and more thread in behind the stitches. For things like afghans that usually use a huge stitch (relatively speaking, compared to 25-ct over-one), I weave it under a few stitches and then do the secure backloop. The Scarlet Quince tutorials call it the Thread-Under Anchor with the security loop described starting in Step #3..

Re: Ending thread
Here also under 3, back over 1 and under 2 most of the time. Sometimes I vary the number of stitches, depending on the fabric and how the piece will be used (framed, pillow case, etc)
I have never tried a pin stitch, but am curious and may give it a try.
