I should of guessed there was a cross-stitch forum

Post by JoannaG »

Hi all, just joined.

Really nice to find this place :D

I don't know why it took me so long to find this forum. Have seen some really helpful and inspirational ideas while browsing through the forum today. Apparently I am a cross country stitcher and I go wherever the thread takes me. I also have a tendency of changing thread colour after the 6 strands of floss I'm working on has run out.

I randomly started cross-stitching a couple of years ago (previously had completed a farm scene for a high school project) and started small with the little multi-coloured "Tree Frogs Trio". I really enjoyed that icebreaker and was planning on working my way up to larger designs with the larger "Frog Pile", however my plans were derailed. I had mentioned in passing to family that I had started cross-stitching and proceeded to get inundated with unrequested kits which I felt obligated to complete

I have since completed a "Lion and Hippopotamus Sampler" (which I gave to my cousin for her son) and have finished 1 of 2 "Flower Faeries" (currently in UFO status as I was doing both faeries on one piece of cloth). My mother brought both kits as Christmas presents and gave the Hippo to me, and the Flower Faeries to my sister-in-law, ALL for me to do! I know, weird! You should have seen my sister-in-law's face when she opened her present!!! She is not a cross-stitcher

I hope to at sometime to share pictures of my earlier projects, I just have to find them, I know I have photos of them somewhere!

I got tired of doing projects I hadn't really wanted to complete, and am now deeply entrenched in some "Ballerina Dreams" (planned for another cousin's daughter). When I had offered the Hippos to my cousins on a "first come first serve" basis and I had asked what others may like for their youngsters. My younger cousin had suggested something purple for her daughter. I also know the little girl likes dancing. So when I saw the kit, I fell in love... It is by far the most complex thing I have ever done but when I'm working on it, time flies.

I hope to share pictures later (I have seen you all like pictures!), once I upload the current images from my phone. All the project names can be found online if interested.

Maybe after this I will go back to the "Frog Pile". It still looks like fun :D

Hello & welcome :D Fun & friends is what this forum is about as well as advising when necessary. You have certainly been busy with the kits you didn't really want to do & hope now you can do projects you really want to stitch. Look forward to seeing your photos when you have time to put them on here.

 Hi Joanne and Welcome from me too in warm Brisbane Australia, so glad you found us. I am positive you will fit right in and like the others I am looking forward to seeing your work.

A small suggestion to help with the present giving by all and sundry. Go onto one of the web sites Sewandso are very good and sort out a few kits you would love to do and start a wish list. Then you can casually mention to the family that such and such a web site has your wish list.
That way you might get some kits you will really want to do.

Thanks or the welcome everyone!

It is because of this forum that I found HAED! Already found one that just spoke to me. I just stared at it all day during work.

Next project is going to be the "Beginner Treasure Hunt Bookshelf" by Heaven and Earth Designs and artist Aimee Stewart

I have tried to avoid the dragons and faeries as some of them don't look realistic at all (they are real creatures!).
I'm an avid bookworm and like the scifi and fantasy so this design is just perfect for me!

Can't wait! may just drop the "1 project at a time" approach I have used so far!!! :whoop:
Might use the "Frog Pile" to practice on linen or evenweave!

Aimee Stewart has some amazing designs for stitching. I was also a "one project at a time" stitcher before joining the forum. Now I'm a "too many projects at a time" stitcher, but having more fun.

Nah,
Our job is done when the 'victim' - sorry, 'forum member' - is charting their own 5000x5000 stitch, 600 colour masterpiece of their own painting. That is when I feel the job is done.

Haven't got there yet, myself, so in my case job is still undone.
But I'm working on it.

Regards

Richard.
