Too Many Hobbies!
I love to make things, I cannot deny. I learned to sew as a child and have continued throughout my life. I had two daughters, so it was very handy! They were competitive figure skaters, so I made all of their practice and competition outfits (millions of sequins!). To help pay for their very expensive sport, I also made other skaters outfits. Once they entered high school I made their gowns for proms. They both did pageants to earn scholarships, and I made their suits, talent outfits, evening gowns, and swimsuits. When they married, I made their wedding gowns. Here's one of them:
My sewing machine also embroiders. My girls friends are all having babies, so I make a lot of cute things, like this baby quilt:
and this baby pillow:
I also crochet, so a lot of these are made (lots of different patterns and colors):

Wow you are busy. I wish I could sew like that
Re: Too Many Hobbies!
Lots of talent on show here! Better to keep busy, tho, than to have nothing to do.

You are one talented lady!!

Re: Too Many Hobbies!
I agree!! The main problem with retirement is that I don't have enough time to do everything I want to do.wendywombat wrote:Can you ever have Too Many hobbies???

Wonderful sewing! I am sure that your girls appreciate your talent too.
Do you have times when you do lots of sewing and other times lots of crochet or do you do a bit of everything most of the time?

WOW What talent and it sure has kept you busy over the years. Love the wedding gown and the quilt especially too. It is good to have a variety of things to do.

Re: Too Many Hobbies!
I can sympathise.
Have way too many hobbies, too. The only one relating to stitching, though, is cross stitch. Everything else seems to involve being in my workshop turning something solid into sawdust or swarf. Sometimes I get something to show for the effort.
Regards,
Richard.

Re: Too Many Hobbies!
I'm not sure there is such a thing as too many hobbies. As long as you're still enjoying them, that's all that matters.

Re: Too Many Hobbies!
I have multiple projects going at all times. Right now I'm making myself a new Regency era dress for a volunteer job I have as a historical interpreter. I always have a crochet project in my tote bag, as that's easily done while on the road, either in a car or an airplane. My cross stitch sits on a cumbersome floor frame, so it's not as easily portable, so it stays at home. I've also taken a couple of baking classes at a local culinary school. I love baking, and this past Christmas I entered into a gingerbread contest for the first time! Who said retirement was slow?poppy wrote:Do you have times when you do lots of sewing and other times lots of crochet or do you do a bit of everything most of the time?

Re: Too Many Hobbies!
Thanks! The theme was 'Candy, Candy, Candy', so everything except the gingerbread is candy (the figures are modeling chocolate), but I lost points on 'Christmas spirit'... I'll try again this year.Squirrel wrote:Oh my goodness, how amazing is that gingerbread structure. It is AWESOME.

Re: Too Many Hobbies!
That cake would be the winner and an awful lot of tv baking shows!!! Not enough Christmas Spirit? A visit from Santa isn't enough? Can't begin to imagine what could possibly have beaten you. And yes, retirement gives you the time to do the things you love doing, whether it is lots of stuff or just some special activities.

Re: Too Many Hobbies!
I completely empathise.
I refer to myself as a serial hobbyist - but try to limit myself to one/two at a time - mainly because the house isn't that big.
currently I am cross-stitching and sewing - so the cake baking, wool and knitting/crochet needles are up in the loft.

Re: Too Many Hobbies!
!?!
You moved the oven into the loft!? Must make cooking difficult.
Personally I regard cake baking as part of normal life, not a hobby, so it should never go into the loft.
Regards,
Richard.

Re: Too Many Hobbies!
Don't worry guys, the oven isn't in the loft - and the basic cake tins, cupcake trays, brownie tins, kenwood mixer is in the baking cupboard - its more of the specialised tins (e.g. duck tin) and decorating stuff that has gone into the loft as there was just no room.
Standard baking is still allowed - it's just the decorating stuff that gone up
Only last week I was baking chocolate brownie cookie dough bites
