Sorry to hear that Angie I'm glad you are feeling better, fingers crossed you can go home tomorrow, take care

I've popped in today as I've been to the hospital and spoken to my Ortho Specialist, the operation he initially told me he couldn't do he's had a chat with his fellow hip surgeons and he's now happy that it is achievable, though its major surgery and he cannot guarantee that I would be totally pain free and its a lengthy recovery but I'd get to keep my hip.
He's referred me to Southmead Hospital to speak to a surgeon that specialises in Hip Replacements for young people so I can decide which route to go down, at my age of 41 I'm a bit old for the osteotomy and a bit young for Replacement.
I am feeling much better now that I know my choices and life can get moving again once I've had an operation, its been a difficult two years with my mobility drastically limited.
We are so lucky to have the NHS in the UK the staff are fantastic despite all the pressure they are under each and every one deserves a medal!

Good luck with that referral. I hope it happens really soon.

BTW. ...I used to work at Southmead before I retired. ..understand that it's changed a bit since.

Thankyou Wendy :)

It is so different there, it's like a cross between an airport lounge and hotel! I went there last year for an appointment, I'm not joking there was a woman playing a piano and singing, a mini art gallery and huge tree's growing up the middle, there were lots of people milling around with hand luggage its quite a sight to see
I should imagine working within the NHS is a rewarding job do you miss it?

Still in the hospital Meds are not kicking in yet and they still have to monitor my heart ever night cause of septic shock. I miss my computer.
Sure hope they get your hip all fixed up soon.

NOT AT ALL!!!
It's changed so much since I left in 1998. Before working there I worked at Ham Green hospital which was small, more like a cottage hospital. When it closed being transferred to SMH was a bit of a shock! So big!!
I was glad to get out, frankly. My friend and I mutter strongly about how nursing 'used to be' compared with now. She still has to go to Southmead as a patient now so that's how I know how it's changed.

I'm sure you'll get good care so don't listen to me!

Hello

I thought I would join the ever growing list of people who will need fixing at some point.
I have made 2017 a year to look after myself better and I'm wanting to go back to my nursing and midwifery. To do this I have had to admit to myself I'm massively overweight which needs to go and my knee is going to need looking at.
I have made an appointment with the doctors tomorrow to get referred about my knee. I'm fine walking on it but going up stairs feels like a knife has been put through it. I suppose if I'm going to get better I need to be able to move more and be pain free.

I'm good good company here and to you all ill and on the mend big big hugs

Good for you, MM! We'll all help as much as we can here, I'm sure you realise.  :applesauce: :applesauce:

In case you were wondering, and I just know you were, you are all correct: I am occupying the back bedroom, which is soundproofed, so that you aren't disturbed by my coughing and hacking all night long. Think I'll need to go the the real-world doctor...

MM - It can be done!! I have been an up and down person (in terms of weight) my whole life. The evidence is that I have 6 sizes of clothes in my closet. I have given away most of the larger sizes (I do that every time I lose), but I'm getting too old for much more of this. I joined Weight Watchers about 6 or 7 years ago and lost 60 lbs. Gained back 25 but have finally lost it again. I haven't been a WW member for a long time, but still try to stick to most of their guidelines. Health is the motivator. At my last physical, my glucose was up. Didn't take much motivation when the doctor said "pre diabetic" and prescribed some medicine. My lab work is back to normal and I'm planning to keep it that way. Any encouragement you need is here for you. Take your time and once you start losing that will become more motivation. Find out what works for you.

Serinde - sounds like seeing a doctor is exactly what you need to do. You don't want that cough to get even worse. While there aren't many meds for old fashioned colds, a respiratory infection is different. Until then, hot tea and honey and/or a hot toddy are recommended. And as much sleep as you can manage. Ring the bell and one of your excellently trained nurses will be there providing lots of TLC.

I am so relieved your situation will improve! I hope all goes well and it's over soon. I hope you can keep going with your hip. Just take one day at a time and talk to the surgeon. I am sure everything will be fine in the end.
