Rosemary's 2017 Stitching - 22 Mar
Happy New Year everyone!
I thought I'd post the current status of my WIPs to have a point of reference (for myself as much as anything else) for this year's stitching:
Tree of Life - was hoping to finish this last year but I don't think I touched it once, so it's definitely my focus for the next few months.
Blue Moon - I love this but suspect it's not going to get much attention this year again.
The Shore of the Turquoise Sea - this takes ages with all the blended threads but the more I do the more I like the way it's turning out.
Arabian Walled Garden - well we all know what happened with that. Definitely going to be restarted this year, just need a bit longer to get over the frustration!
Mabel's Hardanger SAL - just completed Round 7 and will post in that thread. I should get the rest done quite soon.
My only goals this year are to complete Tree of Life and continue to enjoy stitching!
Thanks for looking.

I love all your WIP's and look forward to seeing more of them through the year.
The important thing is to enjoy it, you will know when the time is right to restart the walled garden.

You like intricate designs don't you!
I don't think I could work on 3 of them at one time!! All credit to you for doing so!!
Having said that, they are all quite beautiful!!

WOW, those pictures are stunning, as a relatively new beginner to cross stitching I am amazed at how you keep control of all those threads. I'm sure I would end up in one big tangle.

Re: Rosemary's 2017 Stitching
Thank you for all the lovely comments!
Looking at my (completely unachievable) stash/wishlist it appears I like dramatic landscapes, flowers, birds and animals, as realistic as possible although I also really like Andy Russell's stylised landscapes. I love colour too; it's always so fun to stitch with bright colours. It was a revelation to me a few years ago when I discovered this forum and consequently HAED, Golden Kite, Chatelaine etc. I love that I can stitch an almost photographic representation of the source material.
Apparently so!wendywombat wrote:You like intricate designs don't you!

Repeated careful counting! Seriously though, there is nothing special about one of these big projects; as many people have said it's just one stitch after another, just takes years rather than weeks to finish!Clive125 wrote:WOW, those pictures are stunning, as a relatively new beginner to cross stitching I am amazed at how you keep control of all those threads. Re: Rosemary's 2017 Stitching
I could never do that either, I'm glad somebody else said something! I've been cross stitching for years but I could never keep that many threads hanging about, it would drive me insane, and I would surely screw up the stitching somehow. I prefer to just do as much as I can with one color and then switch out the thread when I've counted out stitches in the same color as far as I dare!Clive125 wrote:WOW, those pictures are stunning, as a relatively new beginner to cross stitching I am amazed at how you keep control of all those threads. Those are all gorgeous but that 1st one... WOW.
I'm also glad to see other people have multiple large projects going at the same time. I think I only have 2, one of which I haven't touched in probably 15 years, the other I worked on around Halloween some, and since then I've mostly just done mason jar lids. A lot of them. But I think I might start something big now, you've inspired me!

Your goals for 2017 are lofty, but attainable, and your projects are beautiful.
I set some goals for this year, too, but goals are totally fluid and often end up being mere suggestions.
