Stashmas 2016 Questions, Concerns and Chatter

Post by rcperryls »

Since we have one thread for sign-ups and one thread for wish lists this thread will be for anything and everything else that is Stashmas Related! If you have any questions or concerns this is the place to ask them. Also feel free at any time to contact either me or Niki with a pm if you need to. Also remember that we have the Stashmas FAQs if you want more general information about our special forum event.

As the pound is so horribly low now, will we in the UK be allowed to spend a little bit more than £12.50 :-) ?

Rather more serious question than my previous one - it says in the sign-up thread to not go over the limit also if giving from stash; does that mean that if I happen to have something in my stash which I bought many years ago and which would be just perfect for my Stashmas recipient, I have to work out what it cost me originally, or what it would cost me to buy it now?

I haven't talked with Niki about this, but I think if you can guesstimate what it cost originally and your gift is within the limit, then your recipient is very lucky (which your recipient would be regardless) indeed. The important thing is to not go overboard which we have seen in the past. It can be hard not to especially when you know you have something in your stash that you want to share and that you won't miss. (I could send 1/2 my stash and probably not notice most of it missing). Hope this helps.

Thanks Carole, that is very helpful. I'll try to be sensible and not too "creative" in my guestimates :-)

Sorry, I did not join the Stashmas, but most of the wishes were for fabric. I only had extra DMC floss which everyone has and most of you live in the UK. It would be easier to buy a gift certificate! Postage is not cheap.

However, Happy Stashmas to you All! :applesauce: :D

Maybe next year.

Following up on Mabel's post about the US $ I find it too restricting - as it is only about $A 8 which equates to 4 skeins of floss and little else.

I am wondering if in future years perhaps have a set sum - say US$ 15 and no one spend more than that in their own country forgetting all about converting it back to US$. e.g. $A15 would buy a chart and maybe a couple of skeins of floss from an embroidery shop. None of our Aussie wide general shops sells craft work apart from a bit of wool in KMart shops, pkts of needles etc but I have yet to see anything remotely resembling embroidery/stitchery in any of them.

Just something to think about for next year perhaps.

I ran into similar issues too. We can certainly have a discussion about it before next year. It's also tricky because besides the exchange rates changing, prices of different items can vary so much between countries. I will make a note that before Stashmas next year we can get a discussion started.

Sally, are you sure? Even with the pound as weak as it is at the moment I'm fairly sure £12.50 equates to more than $A8 :thinks:

I just tried a currency converter and it says £12.50 is A$19.98 - does that help?

thank you Mabel! I knew something wasn't right about that conversion, but didn't think about the currency converter  I'm sure this will make it easier for Sally.

Hi Mabel and Carole, I have just done a conversion and it is $A13.0358 todays rate is US 0. 77c to $A 1.00 so it has risen a few cents in recent days which is good. :applesauce:

Sally, the conversion I did using one of the online conversion sites came up,with $15.00 US = $19.55 AUD. I'm not sure what you are using for the conversion?

A thought has just struck me - Sally, are you working from $12.50 instead of £12.50 perhaps?

I used $US 10 which converted to $A13.03 at yesterday's figures for the US $. Not all that long ago the Aussie dollar was worth more than the US $ but sadly that is no longer the case.

PS What a nut I am. of course the Aussie dollar is worth more than the US$. I think I have finally got my head around it. I really wonder where my brain goes to sometimes. Sorry for the confusion - it's all down to an 80yr old brain which needs a reboot. :)
