Hi all,
Squirrel sent me a piece of evenweave in her destash, I dyed it using Inktense blocks, and it's now the base for a stitched geological map of the British Isles.
I used the Pattern Wizard tool to convert the map, but I'm using that more as an outline guide than a strict pattern, as the coloured areas of the map are solid colours (which PW didn't always recognise).
It's a slow project, I've not stitched 1 over 1 before, and I've not worked on anything with a higher thread count than 22, so this is stretching my focus a bit! I'm working 1 over 1 tent stitch rather than cross stitch as I don't think I have the patience for cross stitch on this project

I have an idea buzzing around the back of my mind that a series of geological maps, each a distinct slice through taken at various depths, stitched on a very fine gauzy fabric would be *beautiful*, but unless I can find a grant / funder that would be willing to let me do nothing but work on one project for at least a year, this is likely to stay in the back of my mind!

Lovely the new colours on the fabric you are so clever to do that. What a neat project you have given yourself too and you are making really good progress with it. Well Done for experimenting which is working oh so well.

I agree. I also prefer tenting when stitching over 1 on large projects on fabrics that are over 22 ct. Yours looks great so far. And very creative idea!Squirrel wrote:Lovely the new colours on the fabric you are so clever to do that. Thanks all!
I'm very much trying to remember "this is a marathon, not a sprint!"
It's quite satisfying seeing the outline of the country appear, I'm still unsure whether to have a black backstitch outline. Most of the colours are quite clearly defined, but the grey isn't holding out well against the blue. It's a diagram rather than a naturalistic picture, so black outlines aren't the end of the world, but I'm not wild about them (which is a completely arbitrary prejudice!).

A marathon indeed! I may start my own stitching marathon in the future, and believe me, that will be a marathon! I don't think I am able to show you the whole picture, it's that big. But I have a few stitches to make before that.
Keep up the good work! I am sure you will tame it! One stitch at a time.

Re: Geological map of the British Isles
I think this must be a first, stitching a geological map.
It's looking good & your stitching is absolute perfection for size.
It may be worth changing the grey colour soon if you are a bit uncertain, maybe go 1 darker in the same swatch. Or blend between the current colour & 1 darker.
Regards,
Richard
