New to the forum and new to cross stitching!

Post by strutterstitches »

Hey guys!!

My name is Margie, from Chicago IL. I'm brand new to the forum (super excited about it!!) and some-what new to cross stitching. I started about a year ago, just working on small pieces to mainly give out to my buddies. I have a very minimal Etsy store as well, I mainly only sell completed pieces that are framed.

Still getting used to the craft but I am totally in love with it! I'm really excited to talk to/see what more experienced stitchers do :)

I do have a question to start off with, in regards to colored aida.. what do you guys do to get more obscure colors? For instance if you needed a dark maroon fabric, do you have a favorite website or store or brand?

 Hi Margie and welcome to the forum from a Chicago transplant to South Carolina! Spent my first 35 years in Chicago and have to admit that today, after getting pictures from family and friends still there, I think I really appreciate winter down South . Far too many memories of sitting in cold cars trying to warm them up and driving in the white stuff if the car did start. I do have great memories of doing crafts though in cozy living rooms and drinking hot tea (or Irish coffee  ) as well. Cross stitching is a great way to spend the cold days indoors.

There are quite a few online stores that offer tons of stash (and we are always fond of encouraging accumulation of stash). 1-2-3 Stitch! is one of my favorites. Others that I have had good experiences with are Nordic Needle and Herrschners. Fabrics by Stephanie is a great place to find hand-dyed Aida. And there are lots more.

Hope you will post pictures of your projects. We love pictures. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Carole

Welcome from the West of Scotland from a long transplanted Chicago suburbanite. (That really sounds pretty awful, doesn't it?) Anyway

Welcome to the forum and to cross stitching! It's quite the fun project. As far as colored aida. If you haven't tried evenweave you may try that also. Smaller holes, but it's a dream to work with.

123stitch.com is a great site. I've ordered several pieces of fabric from them in various sizes and colors and they never disappoint. I do advise reading the description on the color as the photos don't always look identical to the fabric. Their descriptions are usually spot on.

Hello! And welcome from Texas :) Hope you found your new home away from home, haha. As for specialty fabrics, I rather like Everythingcrossstitch.com. Am currently using fabrics from there for both of my WIPs. Good luck in your search!
So many HAEDs I couldn't possibly list them all. Current favorites are Dragon Kin, Sea Unicorns (QS), April Fairy, What's This, Dahlia, and so many starts going on. Love to cross stitch! Find me on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/brekkana.kultiras

Hi Margie and welcome to the forum! The best thing about living where it's freezing cold and covered with snow is it's the best excuse for staying curled up all day long with your stitching!! :whoop: :applesauce:
