Canvas Question

Post by unicycleguy »

Hello all,

I have a question about canvas terminology. What are the definition names of the main types of spacing between openings in the canvas? I think Aida is an evenweave, but I don't know the name of the main other one I've dealt with. I've included pics of Aida and the other one below. The blue dots in the pics indicate openings. My question: what is the non-evenweave kinda zigzaggy spacing in the unknown example called? Thanks so much!

I'm not sure but that doesn't look like canvas as much as knitting?

Usualky canvas is defined by the fibre but that looks like wool or acrylic to me, which would not be canvas.

Canvas for stitching on is uniform like aida only instead of each square being created by woven thread blocks each square in canvas is created by independant threads. (If you google tapestry or in the US needlepoint).

I agree with Mystonique. The 2nd picture doesn't look like the sort of thing you'd use for cross stitch or needlepoint. :?

The second one does not look like any kind of evenweave iv'e ever seen, It looks more like a piece of knitting. Where did you get it and how did you decide to stitch on it?

That second fabric is definitely knitted. The only way to work on it is to use the knit embroidery stitch.
