Lakeside Village, work in progress from newbie

Post by Makinmagic »

This is my very first project. As with all I do, I dive dip into it and ordered a large kit. I know, I probably should have practiced on something smaller, because I practically have never held a needle until couple weeks ago :)
This a Lakeside Village by Dimensions, got me with its lovely bright colors. What do you think? I think it looks pretty decent so far fr a total noob. Wow you should see my background, it's such a mess. At least I figured right away that I need to make crosses in the same direction /// \\\. Now I am trying to eliminate diagonal stitches at the back.

Well done! And big props to doing a Dimmensions chart!! (I have a love hate relationship with them, in that I buy their kits for the pictures and then never get over the god I hate the chart thing to actually stitch them....)

The colours are amazing here, and sometimes doing a big project can work better of getting the obsession than little stitches.

Look forward to seeing more.

That's lovely, great stitching. Don't worry about the back, mine are nothing to look at especially when you have loads of colour changes. Great work.

Wow, thank you so much, what an amazing encouragement for me!
I have to care for my back, because since I am already deep in the process, I notice that many stitches look not neat - and this is because the back is so overloaded with knots (I was doing knots when I just started) and diagonal stitches on the back, I constantly have trouble finding a hole, getting my thread tie in a knot, and threads from the back pulling to the front with the needle. So I am trying to be neater.
I know I will not was this job if I finish it, because with my lack of technique, it will probably come undone right away and I won't be able to live through that :D

If you are getting knots in the back it means the thread it twising, after a few stitches I let my thread and needle hand down and let the twisting spin out, if you are wonering why one thread is longer than the other on the needle after a while, that is also because of twisting. I still get knots so I check every row before I cross it to be sure there are none and if there are I can correct it easier. I find that some threads knot up more than others too.
