Mabel Figworthy wrote:Thanks Serinde, that was the perfect excuse to go through your whole gallery -- what great pieces of embroidery there are in there! I couldn't find the one you meant though, or perhaps I overlooked the detail :thinks: :thinks:

What you said is one of the reasons why I usually qualify the phrase "my own invention" :-) -- it is my own invention, in that I hadn't seen it anywhere, and thought it up myself, but of course there are only so many things you can do with bars and fillings and so different people are bound to come up with the same things sometimes! It is one of the reasons why copyrght can be such a tricky area, and why (unless you know otherwise?) I don't think stitches can be copyrighted.
Aw, gee, Mabel! Thanks! The piece I was thinking about was the great-nephew's hardanger piece (on the first page of the gallery). The interwoven border isn't exactly like yours, but the idea -- in this case coupling groups of threads together -- is sort of like it.

Don't think I was being critical, either! Nothing could be further from the truth. I hugely enjoy watching your creative processes.

Just a quick post to say hi :-) -- we had a lovely time in Devon with the in-laws and I had quite a bit of stitching in between walks and cooking and chatting to family, so here are Floral Lace 8a (Pimpernel) and 8b (Grape Hyacinth); 8b uses a filling I've named "sail stitch", 8a has gamma stitches that pull thedouble wrapped bars.

That is what I was thinking Jo. I keep planning this afghan in my head and the only thing I don't find I have room for are the first of Mabel's designs I ever got which were the Afghan Squares. Now I want to put SOW, the Rounds I just did for the coasters, these lovely florals (I count 14 so far) and a few others. Too many decisions

:thinks: :thinks: Exactly my thoughts Carole. I think a separate afghan for Floral Lace is the only answer.

My current afghan project of the "Round" series is coming along nicely, the colour scheme is autumnal.

For anyone thinking of trying hardanger on afghan have a go. I thought the cut whiskers would be a problem with such an open weave but they're not.

what fabric do you use for an afghan? the only stitchable afghans I can find are 14-18 ct, which I think would be too big for hardanger

My current afghan is Anne cloth - 18count. I have changed nos. 5 and 8 perles for nos. 3 and 5 and it covers well.

belated Happy New Year all -- we're just home after a week at the in-laws' followed by a week with my family, so we're still trying to recover :-)!

Sally, all the Floral Tiles came in pairs, so each of them had an a and a b; I finished 9a in Holland, so just 9b to go!

Working on an eyelet variation on Floral Lace at the moment (VERY pulled, Serinde, you will approve :-)) but here is the picture of 9a Thistle which I finished over the holiday. The filling stitches are split twists.
