Agi learning to sew: clothes and quilting
I haven't been stitching so much lately, because I was doing lots of other things, apart from being busy at school.
I have long wanted to learn how to sew clothes, and here are my first attempts: a 3-layered skirt, an upcycled T-shirt, made out of three , and a pair of trousers. The trousers are just the muslin, the learning piece, I had to adjust the pattern a little and now I will sew the "real thing".
If you want to read more, I wrote a detailed post about my sewing on my blog.

Re: Agi learning to sew clothes
I wouldn't think you are just learning. I'm lucky if I can do a hem. I can sew buttons back on if they pop off but that is about it for me. I really love the skirt and shirt. What will you use for the pants? The muslin look fine to me.

Re: Agi learning to sew clothes
Wow Agi are you sure you are just learning to make clothes???? They are awesome especially the trousers.
I have made my own clothes for since my early teens (a long time ago) but never tried to do trousers - so well done you.

I adore the skirt. I never would have guessed these were first attempts at sewing clothing.

Re: Agi learning to sew clothes
Here are a few things I have sewn lately: a blouse, a bag and a dress.
The lining wasn't part of the original pattern, I made it up myself.
And I have made my first ever quilt top - it still needs a border, then quilting.
Some info on how I did it, if anyone happens to be interested, on my blog.

Re: Agi learning to sew: clothes and quilting attempts
Agi you are so clever and talented! I've been researching lots of different patchwork quilt block styles on the web (amongst other textile things), there are so many great tutorials on YouTube but I have yet to be brave enough to have a go. I hope you will keep us posted on your makes as I love to see them!

You are so creative, I love it. That bag is so pretty and so springlike. If you are making those to sell I think you are going to do great.

Re: Agi learning to sew: clothes and quilting attempts
Thank you
The bag was in the Cath Kinston book Sew! - so I cannot sell it, have to come up with my own version first.
The quilt is actually quite wonky, lots of seams don't match and are not perpendicular, but I love the overall effect. And I just need to practice, right?
Amanda, I have learnt mostly from Youtube, too. Also, on Craftsy there are lovely free lessons. I have watched hours and hours of videos before I started - it works for me, I more or less know what I am doing by the time I start. Of course, I also read all the books I could find in English and Swedish. Love the library in town, has a great selection of old and new craft books.
I just need to build a stash of fabric. I don't have much money though, and don't even want to spend lots on it, so I mostly buy small leftover pieces at Red Cross charity shop, and for tiny pieces, like my hand-sewn hexagon WIP, I raid the scrap box in my classroom, too

And here I was going to praise you for your pointy quilt points! I think it's wonderful! I guess you've figured out how to use your sewing machine, then?benceagi wrote:

Re: Agi learning to sew: clothes and quilting attempts
To me the quilt top looks perfect, I can't find any fault with the seams. Everything else is nice too.
Re: Agi learning to sew: clothes and quilting attempts
WOW great job! I can't even sew a hem either, very envious about this ability!
