I got one for today so now I'm at 4/10. I'm sorry Theresa that happened. I have to agree I don't think any of us would believe you'd cheat ;-). I agree with you one day I'll win and be able to host, lol.

I just realized that I have to disqualify myself from this competition. In a Mathematics Bingo, I can't believe that neither Juel, our Math whiz, nor I, a CPA, realized that I sent in a list of 15 numbers instead of 10. I guess I got it mixed up with the 15 needed for Bingo on another site.

I'm glad I caught it at 9/10. It could have been embarrassing had I called Bingo and it looked like I was cheating. So sorry!!!!

Theresa
Oh my, I can't believe I haven't noticed this =(
I am so sorry!
I got so many mails when I set this bingo up, I stopped counting the numbers after some time

Well. here are todays numbers:

10)Johannes Kepler
Johannes Kepler was born on 27th December 1571 in Weil der Stadt, Germany. He was a mathematician, astronomer, nature philosopher and astrologer.
He was very interested in astrology and astronomy, which was very close at that time.
He studied the movements of planets and put up some laws for the movement of planets.
He made the basis for optics with one of his works and invented the Keplerian telescope, also known as the astronomical telescope, which uses two convex lenses and had therefore a higher magnification than the Galilean telescope, which was used before.
In astrology he treid to find a connection between the planets movements and the life on earth. He believed the movements influence the people actions and there are more than 800 horoscopes he created in his lifetime!

27) John Nash
John Nash was born on 13th June 1928 in Bluefield, USA, and was a mathematician.
He is known for his work in economic theory and game theory.
His game theory shows how important it is to cooperate.
Very famous is the example of the "Prisoners dilemma"

There are two man (A and B) arrested by the police and the police questions them in different rooms, so they can't discuss what to say. The situation looks like this:
*Both are silent - the will both get 1 year in prison for lower crimes
*A is silent, B talks, for example that A was the bad guy who did it all. So B will get away without punishment for being helpful and A will get 6 years.
*Same if A talks and B is silent, B will get 6 years and A none
*If both talk, maybe saying each other was the bad guy, the will both get 4 years

So A starts to calculate:
*If I talk, I will either get 4 years or none
*If I am silent, I will get 1 year or 6 years

So A decides to confess. Because B will do the same thinking and so B will confess, to.

But this means they will both get 4 years in prison, which is far worse than 1 year for each, which would have happened if they had both been silent.

The Nash-equlibrium delivers a solution for problem like this ;-)

He also became popular through the movie "A beautiful mind" which some of you may know =) It's a brilliant movie, also for non-mathematicians.

Just re-read this (looking for todays numbers) & realized I wasn't really clear in my last post (I was in such a hurry to post-a-joke...)

I'm also at 5/10.
