What do you do when you hate stitching PART of a design?

Post by Trylla »

I'm working on my pixie (which I adore) but for some reason stitching the fleshy parts makes me nuts. I just detest stitching the arms/legs/back.

Anyone else ever encounter this? You love the design but just don't dig stitching a particular part of it.

I could be crazy though ...

I hate stitching the castle in my current design mostly because of the metallics used. I just put up with it as much as I can because I know it will look beautiful when finished. :D

Usually I don't have that problem, that is unless there is loads of backstitching! Then I just try to stitch it in segments so it doesn't get too overwhelming

Country Companions hedgehogs. All that blending and confetti to do their bodies !!!! I always do it first so I can end up with a good feeling about the finished project. In spite of always saying I will never do another I often do as I can't resist them. Love "hedgies" and often used to see them in the evenings when I lived back in NZ.

I loath backstitching. And that's what I am loving about my HAED - no back stitching so when I finish that bit, I am well and truly finished that bit!

I hate lots of confetti stitches - not a fan of lots and lots of colour changes.

Backstitching is my most detested thing, with confetti stitches coming in a close second.

I dont mind backstitching, but I have to be in the right mood for it. But I really dislike stitching whites and creams I have no idea why this is :? although having said that Im planning a project of a unicorn which is just whites an creams!! theres a logic there somewhere..... maybe.
I also dislike confetti stitches, they slow me down and Im already a slow stitcher! I usually just grit my teeth an get on with it though, just to get it done!

I don't mind backstitching, it adds so much to a design that I try to enjoy the effect rather than think about the tedium of it! The only thing I really hate is stitching white on white. The only time I've had to do a lot of that was when I was doing a congratulations card for my brother's brand new fiancee. I did a suit on a coat hanger for him, and a wedding dress on a coat hanger for her...luckily I had the option of changing the fabric to a nice creamy coloured one, which was much easier!

I actually enjoy backstitching as well. It means I'm nearing the end of the project. I like watching the detail "pop" with the backstitch.

I enjoy back stitching but agree it can get tedious.....that's why I do it in sections as I go.

Whoever said they hate stitching whites/creams....ditto!!! There is just something toooo boring about it; I probably make this worse for myself by making sure that any white is the last thing I stitch.

I also get bored with large sections of the same color, too monotonous.

So the question was what do I do.....usually just deal and tell myself it'll be over soon and very much worth it. Take a break and do something non-stitchy then come back to it. Look at the sample picture and remind myself how lovelyyyyy the design is  .

Backstitching is actually easy Kitkat, but bores me to death... You'll definitely want to do it if your pattern calls for it though, it really makes it "pop"!

I think the loathing of backstitch is not because its hard to do but because it appears to be so time consuming and.....it doesn't unfold like full stitching does...does that make anysense...Alot of people save the backstitching for last and by that time they are ready to move on to the next project...backstitching is the only thing that prevents them to do so...and it doesn't appear that you are making as much progress as you are with the "stitching" I think back stitching adds a certain "POP" to most designs though. This is what I remind myself when I have to do a bunch but I try to pick out patterns with as little as possible.

I can get really bored when I am in a confetti section and all that changing threads but I plow through it knowing that this too shall pass. At the present time the pattern I am working on has alot of big block of colors so that is helping I kind of go from section to section in the pattern to see how much I can get done. Then I tend to go back to all the confetti. I haven't done anything with backstitching in a long time but I knew that when I got to that area I was nearly done and that made me feel so good and I got a new sense of urgency to finish.
