Needlepoint question . . .

Post by kkwalrus »

Hi,

I have never seen Madiera cotton and am not able to purchase it locally. Does anyone know if DMC perle cotton #3 or #5 would be a suitable equivalent? If not could anyone suggest an alternative? It is my preference to use something with a big of sheen as opposed to wool. I guess I should mention I will be using an 18 count mono canvas.

Thank you for your time.

This is Madeira cotton. Two strands of almost any embroidery thread is equivalent, really, to Pearl 8 (rather than 5 or 3 which are much thicker). The Caron equivalent is Wildflowers.

No reason at all why you couldn't use pearl threads on canvas. Shorter lengths would solve the inevitable problem of wear as you pull it through.
