Thank you everybody! This is the first time I've been on since the 21rst, I believe. I get so busy around the holidays.
I had a great birthday. We went to see the Golden Compass (an excellent movie) and had a great dinner with all my friends. I got ton's of great gifts, although no stitching...
That doesn't surprise me though. My family fuels my other additions, reading and anime, so I can't growl about having to support my other addiction.

Actually I have read the books.
I found that it was close enough that I didn't mind most of the changes... And I didn't really mind it ending two chapters early.
What irritated me the most was moving Iorek's battle up and putting it before the "great escape", and (of much more importance to me) the comment "Iorek was banished because he didn't kill the ursurper" or whatever reason they gave... He was banished because he killed another bear! What's so hard about saying that!
Otherwise, it was cool. My Dad didn't want to see it, but I convinced him to go... Before he saw it, his comment was "It has talking bears, therefore it's fantasy" and afterwards it was "You know... Those bears made that movie, they were great!"

I agree, Kitsune. I thought it was pretty close to the book and really enjoyed it, although the ending took me by surprise. I also thought it was rather sanitised - maybe because here in the UK it had a '12' Certificate. For instance, Billy, who had been separated from his daemon, was returned to his parents and it gave the impression that, with good nursing, he would be all right.
And yes, I thought the bears were good too - the battle was amazing.
I read the three books very quickly, as I couldn't put them down, so it's made me want to read them again - more slowly this time!

I seem to remember that Billy died in the movie. Although they did try to downplay the situation.
I also appriciated changing the simple guilottine to the electricity powered machine for the cut... Reading the book, I just couldn't understand how a bit of metal racing past them could "cut" that sort of connection.
So I did approve of that difference!
