Machine sewing - Baby bear clothes

Post by godzoned »

Hi everyone
another hobby of mine is machine sewing - but I have not been doing it alot because of the other projects that are on the go.

A friend of mine just lost her baby at 18 week pregnant. It is really sad and I wanted to do something for her.

It was a baby girl and they named her "olive" and planted an Olive tree in their garden in rememberance of her last weekend.

I have had in my wardrobe a series of mags from all about teddy bears - they came with clothing to sew up and accessories. So anyway I finally got them all out and went through them all to see which one I could adapt to look like a baby teddy bear.

I chose the wedding one. I had cut out the skirt of the dress a bit skinnier than the original wedding dress pattern and made it longer to represent more of a Christening type gown. I also did some smocking on the front of the dress as well. And added the ribbons and pearl.

About 2 hours of solid work last night. I just wanted to do it and finish it.

I hope to give her the teddy when she is up to visitors again. I am keeping in contact with her via phone at present.

This is a very thoughtful gift at such a tragic and sad time. I'm sure your friend will greatly appreciate it and the thought and love that went into making it.

Oh this is a wonderful keepsake and will show them the baby mattered to others as well.
The sad thing I found, when you lose a baby is that often other people don't realise just how strongly you are already attached to it, it isn't just a sad miscarriage but your own darling little baby you have started to bond with that you lost.
This will be treasured by them I am sure. I think you are a wonderful and caring friend.
