Surface embroidery and goldwork adventures

Post by Inkysloth »

Hi all,

I've been enjoying a bit of surface embroidery & goldwork - I really need to go to the V&A's Opus Anglicanum exhibition for inspiration!

I want to do another set of crossed crutches, much more neatly now I think I've got a better handle on stitching over cotton string padding.

Very nice B! The crossed crutches are very humorous, and the colour wheel is fun. Great to do something different from time to time.

Thanks for your encouragement all!

I'm very aware that I'm not so good at delicate, fine work, but embroidery is proving such a lovely way to play with texture and colour I'm keen to practice more.

The goldwork is remarkable.
I really ought to try some before going to the exhibition next Wednesday, it'll give a better appreciation of how difficult it is, as so far I've not tried any.

I love the crossed crutches - such a modern shape done in such a traditional medium. Creates a mental brick wall for a casual observer's train of thought.

Regards,

Richard
