That is lovely and I think you should take Wendy's challenge on. I know you will create something beautiful! Worth a try!

I won't have any crochet time tonight, and probably none tomorrow either, but it's the monthly Craft At The Library meeting on Friday so I may be able to try it then.

For now, after a mini rose, here is a tiny rose :-)

Image

The original pattern specified worsted/aran wool with a 3.5mm hook, which is an unusual combination; I used the yarn I have, which is 4-ply, and which I usually work with a 4mm hook. So I tried that first, and found that the rose was very loose and lacked definition. Then I tried again with a 2.5mm hook, and the rose above was the result - much crisper in line. Here is a pic showing them both (I didn't do leaves for the larger ones) - exact same pattern, exact same yarn, the only difference was hook size!

And to give you an idea of size, here are the mini and the tiny rose with a ruler:

I like them, too!! :whoop: :whoop:

I think that you must have been born Extra Dextrous! Although I can do some crochet, my tension just sucks! I've tried making little things and they turn out HUGE!!

Right, library craft group this morning so I took some scraps of yellow and white wool with me to try out Wendy Wombat's suggestion. Unfortunately the only white yarn I have is off-white, so not very much contrast, but it'll give you an idea.

I first tried it as I described in my previous post, with two yellow scallops; then, because the yellow seemed to "bleed" from the centre too much, I tried another one with one yellow scallop. I think it's probably just a matter of taste which you prefer!

Two yellow scallops (not sure why there's a gap in one of the green leaves):

I love your little flowers!!!

Many years ago I crocheted a flower afghan for my mom. She liked it but never used it - she was afraid of ruining it. (I know, right???) When she passed, with my sisters' blessings I repossessed the afghan.

One or two yellow scallops......whatever! They look so pretty. Well done Mabel! :whoop:

I'm glad I set that challenge. You are a genius. :applesauce: What will you do with all these pretty flowers?

Both are really lovely Mabel but the one with 1 scallop is my choice - very delicate.

Thanks ladies
Wendy, I'm thinking of turning them into brooches, they're about the right size.
I did these with a slightly smaller hook than the pink version, and like the slightly tighter look.

Mabel, those are so pretty and will make lovely broaches!

Debby, I love your afghan and am so glad that you are using it. Beautiful!

Debby I've only just seen the link to the pic of your afghan, it's gorgeous! It reminds me of poppies - really a remembrance afghan.

I've only just been able to pick this one up as well!

It's beautiful! It's a shame your mother didn't use it, but I'm sure she enjoyed owning it! As a result, it's still as lovely as when you first made it.
