The butterfly brooches are so cute and I think they work well in either contrasting or toning colours. Wonder what making the "wings" from a variegated yarn would look like... :thinks:

now don't do this to me - I am virtuously trying to stitch these from my very limited stash!

I like mini things. So what would happen if I tried to make my mini butterfly even mini-er? Here is one in 4-ply (what I've been using so far) and one in crochet cotton (not sure what size). Same pattern, quite a difference :-)

(Also much more fiddly...)

:applesauce: :applesauce: I love these. I'm thinking that they would make such lovely stocking stuffers. Where did you say you found that pattern? I have a lot of leftover yarn from my long ago years of crocheting. I think

Thank you Mabel. I might have a go at this, if I can remember how to do any of it. I think a quick tutorial will get me up to speed. Maybe.

What lovely crochet projects and so neatly done :applesauce:

I have tried to crochet and last year I thought I'd try again, but like knitting I find the instructions hard to understand, I did manage to crochet a red flower, petals were a little uneven I must admit, well actually it was bad, my other half being rather optimistic about my progress bought me a star wars crochet kit.. I had to give it to my mum to do, thankfully she's great at crochet and I got three Star Wars figures to hang on my Christmas tree :)

That made me giggle Lulu - I can't imagine crocheting anything as complex as a Star Wars figure!

Carole, this pattern is so easy to follow and remember that I had it off by heart after two butterflies, so if anything is going to get you back into it this is the project.

Took me a wee while to work out it wasn't a mutant chick.

I think save the fluffy wool for the caterpillars. :D

Finished a few deadline stitching projects, so it's time for a bit of crochet again :-)

Why I keep working my trial pieces in inappropriate colours when I have actually got the colours the project calls for I'm not absolutely sure :thinks: it may be that I want to keep those new colours for when I know that I like the project, and am starting it in earnest?

Anyway, I found several patterns for little Christmas wreath ornaments; one I really really liked but it needs some plastic rings which I didn't have in my stash (they have now been ordered) and a smaller one which also looked fun so I thought I'd try that first.

Please imagine this done in green, with the yarn sewn through it and tied into a bow red, and the beads gold :-)

Image

Now I didn't like the way the bow came out on this; it may be because my yarn was rather crumpled but it looks messy. I did like the running stitch, though, so I kept that and ditched the bow for the moment:

Image

I'd also found two patterns for mini bows, so I tried them both; the larger one needed some tweaking:

Image

Then tried them on the wreath to see if they'd make a good substitute for the original bow. The larger of the two, though attractive in shape, is just too chunky:

Image

Alhough it might just work if I use slip stitch for the tails instead of double crochet (UK) / single crochet (US).

The tiny bow seems about right, but I don't like its shape quite so much as the other one:

Image

I think I do now need to crochet these in the right colours to see if they look good enough to give as Christmas ornaments to the ladies in my stitching group (in lieu of cards).

Will also let you know how I get on with the one based on the plastic rings, when they come in!

Oh, by the way, the hanging loop on this test wreath is far too short because I fastened off and then remembered I hadn't done the loop, so I had to unpick my fastening off and work as many chains as I could with the cut off end...

:thinks: just thinking - do you think this would work in brown as a gingerbread biscuit?

Real gingerbread? Or a gingerbread colored yarn?

I don't think I'll try crocheting with real gingerbread  !

No, I meant gingerbread-coloured yarn, and decorate it with other coloured yarns and beads in the style of a gingerbread biscuit :-)
