purgatory's crochet - made more tops! 17.9.15

Post by purgatory »

well I started my crochet, despite it looking easy I had a few false starts but youtube is a wonderful teacher lol

mine is a lot more simple than squirrel's that I have just seen, I am planning on making a blanket by joining up the granny squares (will also have lilac ones) with a purple border as it seems like something I can aspire to do, though I already have big plans to make people scarfs for Christmas!

anyway here is a few progress pics

as you can see I have done a few, surprised how quick they shape up, I'm afraid I don't know what sort of yarn I'm using, its stuff I got off ebay the only thing I know is that its 100% acrylic and uses a 4mm hook

anyway thanks for looking

:applesauce: :applesauce: Granny squares are a great way to start your crocheting. And they come in so many different patterns you will be amazed. Lots of pretty patterns out there for scarves and afghans and ponchos too. I ended up making a granny square afghan once using leftover yarn. It got big enough for a double king size bed. And I don't have a clue what happened to it. Must have given it away?
Love seeing these updates too and am looking forward to seeing your afghan grow!

Granny squares is how I started off in crochet. Finished a baby blanket for a friend, and forgot to get pitted before I sent it off. Now I have a nice stash of yarn and many projects started. I have even more patterns that I want to crochet. I do believe that crochet is as addicting as cross stitching.
An Angel in the book of life wrote down my baby's birth. And whispered as she closed the book "too beautiful for earth."

What a beaut pattern you are using for your granny squares and they are looking great.

I agree with JazzyBear that crochet can be as addicting as cross stitch and I would add more relaxing too. :D

thanks for the comments, I am really enjoying it you guys are so right when you say its addictive my poor stitching has had a couple of hours spent on it since crochet came into the house! I've moved onto making lilac squares now I cant wait to start putting them together and seeing a blanket emerge

well its coming along, just an update to show the borders I have started doing though I have to say half treble stitch is actually harder than a treble lol

It looks great! Isn't it nice how each square is a "finish"? As for half treble - it's a pretty stitch but so many loops. :-)

:applesauce: :applesauce: very pretty! It's been so long since I last crocheted, I had to think about a half treble and all the varieties of stitches that can be done, but like cross stitching, it really is one stitch at a time, isn't it.

I have a blanket! I will add another row or two to it but I have run out of yarn so I have to wait for it to arrive before doing more, but you can see the basic blanketyness of it :whoop:

Image

I will have to try and spend some time on my stitching, but crochet is so addictive I'm still waiting for the urge to wear off!

:applesauce: :applesauce: Very pretty. I love the colors and think that is going to be one cozy blanket. How large is it? I once ended up with a blanket that could fit on a kingsize bed. I got carried away with adding those rows around the edges.

Squirrel, my yarn arrived this morning so no time lost there! didn't even have time for withdrawal to set in lol

Carole, it isn't big enough for a bed, its going to be a baby blanket so currently its about a metre square but I am going to add another couple of rows to it, going to be doing scarves next week hopefully and then I might try and do a cardigan (hope I'm not being too ambitious there) but they are both step by step off youtube so I should be ok

I love your blanket!!! You did a fantastic job on it. Crochet is fun, isn't it? Scarves are quick and easy to do - I think I've crocheted myself four or five at least...they come in handy for our cold winter months.

:applesauce: :applesauce: Great work.

I'm in the same boat as you. My cross stitching has taken a back seat as I'm totally into crochet at the momet too. I'm currently making a blanket for charity in an effort to do a bit of stash busting.
