Diaper Bag

Post by MelindaH »

My sister, Cathy is having her first baby this month. Hopefully, she'll be a better mother than she is a sister, daughter, or friend. We'll see.
Anyway, her husband has some silly idea that someone who loves anime can't also love Star Trek, even though that perfectly describes me. So, I had the idea of making a diaper bag that combines David's favorite anime and Star Trek. I personally can't sew to save my life, so my mom is putting it together, but I picked the fabrics and did a few little cross stitches to put something of my sister into it. (Although she also likes anime and Star Trek, she's not a fan of the particular anime I chose.)
Mom hasn't decided which of these two trek fabrics to use:
Image or Image Cathy prefers TNG, but it's a small piece of fabric. Mom might use both.
I couldn't find any Dragonball Z fabric, so I bought a t-shirt:

I did four baby animal stitches:

And two others. The one on the left is the logo of Purdue University, where my sister and her husband met. The one on the right is Mr. Fox, from The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

I think Mom is planning to put the little x-stitches on the pockets.

Progress is slow at this busy time. No worries, Cat has a bag already. This is a backup for when that one inevitably falls apart.

Here's a picture of my sister and her baby:

The beads on the inside are a zipper pull I made using a few wooden beads and a clay bead I made years ago.

Yay! I'll tell my mom you like it. This was her first bag of any sort, so she was really nervous making it. She was surprised that it looked like a diaper bag when she finished.

:applesauce: :applesauce: Your mom did a great job! Especially if this was a first time project! She (and you) should be proud of yourselves.
Enjoy your new family member!!
