Corey's Carvings *update may.21st*

Post by Corey.G »

Hi everybody. Been taking a break from stitching and want to get back into it soon but there's another thing on the go.

As some of you may know I do done woodworking on a lathe and that was done in my parents garage. I moved out but still in the same city so I could still do it. Now, since last July I've been living in a big city and a five hour drive away from the old small city. So I've been itching to do some woodworking so I finally came up with something.

Eventually I want to make wood vases and bowls and such and engrave designs in them with a dremel. So what better way to use my time than buy a dremel and get familiar with it and do some woodworking at the same time?! And I can use it on the balcony, and it's quiet. So I bought a cheap dremel and what bits if wood I could afford (some vegetable nut things and pieces of 1x1x2 inch offcuts) and if I were to buy bigger pieces I have nothing to cut them with and that's more money.

So here's what I started with to he familiar with my dremel.

I present to you my first project, a bunny. Still new and figuring stuff out;

Starting out the first day;

And here it is from the other side after the second day and then from the top;

:applesauce: I imagine it is hard to work on such a small piece of wood. I have no idea how a dremel works (even though I googled it) so its hard to picture. I think its great that you are able to continue with this in your new location. Looking forward to seeing more.

Oh yes. Quite challenging with such a small piece of wood. The hardest part is holding the wood comfortably. First day I got a hand cramp but after that I found it easier to hold the wood.

As for a dremel. Think of it like a pen/pencil version of a drill. And instead of going head on at something with the bit you normally go at an angle.

Dremels are neat bits of kit. We bought one for Elder Son for Christmas years ago as it was an aid to his model building.

The rabbit is coming together really well. Playing with new kit is a brilliant way to become familiar with its quirky ways. :applesauce: :applesauce:

Here is the rabbit all finished. It's been windy out so some carving is on hold.

Thank you. I'm quite proud of my first one. The next one was supposed to be an owl but that's harder than it seems so I'm gonna try and turn it into a fish. See how that goes and I'll have progress pics in a few days. Still windy out and busy with the new card.
