my other hobby needle punch

Post by grub72 »

This is my other hobby its called needle punch ,,,its like xs but with 3d effect,, its done on calico and one day i am going to go back and finish off a few things as i have a lot of things to start and finish ,,,,,,,,,,,,but here is just a few things that i have done since i was 15
Image this was called the prick test,,, dont ask me how to explain it as it was a lesson as my mum calls it
Image this bunny i loved doing so eventually i might do him again
Image this unicorn and baby i did for a friend and she fell inlove with so i had to do another one for my dauhter ,just have not got around to finishing it the way she wants
Image teddy bear done in metallic threads,, i dont have many of this threads as it is out of stock where i get it from ,so i tent not to do much in this thread
Image
you cant notice but in this tweety i had lots of holes and my mum was not happy as she was the one who taught me nad gave me all of the threads
Image
my attempt of santa clause ,once again mum was not too happy as i did not trim him properly
Image
this was a test nad it turned out ok its a fish in fish bowl but again not quite finished
Image
my attempt of a elephant,,did not enjoy doing him as its only 2 colours
Image
brushed doggie with a special brush
Image
doggie again with daughters name
Image
deadly needles dont ever get them into your skin as tehy bloody hurt
Image
the special brush,,,once again this thing hurts
Don't worry be happy, you have your life, you are alive, you have family, friends who love you, and best of all you have me as a friend :)

I love the brushed doggie, it's adorable! How does this work? It's a great effect, I like the raised 3D look. Do tell us more!

how it works is you use the special needles on the red needle with the red threads and you use full guard and punch from behind instead of the front like xs and with brushing you don't have to trim or cut the loops, once you have finished you brush the loops and they become fluffy and then you trim to look tidy and shape. red thread is the only thread you can brush with and with the yellow thread and needle the thread changes color when you cut the loops. There is also angelic hair which is finer then cotton and that is very hard to work with, also you have to use the blue needle, green needle is for two lots of red thread. Now with the red thread you don't have to go so close to each other otherwise it will bend and be too stiff,,,( i have had that experience with a teddy bear i did when i was young)Yellow thread is close but with every row that you do you have to stop and cut the loops. Angel and metallic are extreamly close to get the effects of the threads. Thats all i can remember as you have to see it in action to really understand the lessons, i have not quite finished all of the lessons as i have moved away from my mum who is my teacher, so i had to stop for a while,,,,it can be harsh on the hands and give you rsi like xs as you are holding a needle and hoop for long periods of time. Its great when you are angry as you can take it out easily if you make a mistake.

well that is it is in a nutshell sort of lol :D :) :P

OK .... I sort of got that ... well, most of it .... well, some of it ....

I think I'll have to see this in action :-)

One question though (and apologies if this displays humongous ignorance), you talk about red, yellow, blue thread but you seem to use all sorts of colours -- is "red" a code for a particular type or thickness of thread?

far more advanced than the punch needle I do..lol

I'm working on this kit now:

http://www.123stitch.com/cgi-bin/itemde ... tem=K73091

I should work on this today as my thumb is sore.

I like punch needle so far..but being a stitcher for over 13 years..punch needle didn't feel right when i looked at the front..looked messy..lol..
as with xs it's all uniform and going the same way..laying flat..etc.
punch needle..the loops go all sorts of ways..lol
but when it's done..i'm sure it will look fine.
I am going to go photo it now and update in a bit.

back side.

when you buy kits, the design is printed right on..you basically color in between the lines as stated on the chart.
THe chart looks exactly like the back of the fabric..only numbers inside each space and they correspond w/ the number of thread color.
YOu use 2 ply floss..and mine are about 18 inches long..dont cut them.
You feed through the tool and basically stab into every whole..
the kit has instructions. oh and you use hoops to hold very tight

Now if you don't do a kit, you draw the design on the fabric yourself, make up your color list..etc. just as if you were designing a cross stitch pattern.

Now i'm a beginner so I'm still learning..but so far it's going well.
I like it..

So many crafty people and they all are very interesting. I want to come back and read this properly when I have more time but it looks great.

Rose, if you do decide to give it a try, then surely this must be the kit for you -- a needle punch snowman :-)

I have never done any punch needle but did look at it some time ago. I thought it might prove a bit expensive on the thread front as it would use quite a lot ?
Love the patterns, especially the one Susan put up. :D

that's why i go for kits Mags.. although they aren't cheap either..not as much as buying fabric, thread and making a pattern..lol
