Needlepoint

Post by Unfinished »

This is my current WIP. A needlepoint Cushion cover I am finishing for someone. It is quite nice to work on for a change but I think overall I prefer cross stitch. I'm hoping progress will be quite quick on this as there are some large areas of one colour.

This is how I received it:

This is what it shouldlook like when finished hopefully:

And this is progress so far, I have completed the two flowers in the middle and am now working on the small circles a the bottom.

It's a lovely design, and as you say looks like a fairly quick one -- well, relative to its size, I mean! The closes I've come to needlepont is petit point for miniatures; what has always stopped me from picking up chair covers etc is that the whole background needs to be stitched, often in one (often beige-y) colour, and i simply haven't the patience for it, I'm afraid . Even in my cross stitch I tend to look for things with not too much background :-). But it looks lovely, and whoever you are finishing it for will be so pleased with your work, I'm sure!

That's going to be really nice - I'm looking forward to seeing it progress.

BTW where did you get that lovely little cat from? It's so cute - and I really like statement underneath. How very true! :D

I love needlepoint! It was one of the crafts I settled on, when I realised how much easier life became when you could put your needle into a preordained spot, and not have to guess, like in most free-style forms! There are some fabulous designs these days, too.

I had to google this as I didn't know how to do needle point.
Is it similar to tapestry?

Looks good!

This is really an interesting design. I like the big patches of color. Good luck with it and keep us updated.

Yes, it's just another name for it. Tapestry in the UK, needlepoint in the US. Or canvaswork. Look here, for drooling purposes:

I like the Nordic Needle. I get their newsletter and catalogue. They have a variety of crafts to choose from. I've ordered fabric and such from them and always get friendly and prompt service.

Thanks All for your encouragement. I got a bit more done last night and have another free evening this evening to work on it but there's not much progress to see yet. I'll post another piccie at the weekend tho.

Mabel, I must admit I may find the larger beigey bits a bit less interesting - I think I shall need a good film to watch while I do those :)

Genevieve, since the signature thread with instructions I've been trawling avatar sites for one I really liked and eventually found the little cat and couldn't resist him - http://www.avatarist.com/" target="_blank" target="_blank. I did also see one of a cat sitting at a pc typing which was good fun.

T-bear, as Serinde says it is the same as tapestry except the tapestries I've done (well, started anyway  ) in the past have all been half cross stitch only but this has other stitches in it too - large cross stitch, oblique slav stitch, petit point and stem stitch - it's interesting to see the different effects the stitches create as I go along.

Serinde, Nordic Needle looks good - I could definitely add to my stash if I wasn't careful there :D

Well, if you want to be tempted, now is a good time: the exchange rate between dollar and £ is very favourable, so things are about half price...

Oh I'm struggling on this :( I managed to get quite a big patch of beige done last weekend but as I haven't got it on a frame and it was a different stitch I was doing it's messed the tensions up a bit so the finish isn't smooth :x I was very fed up and haven't picked it up since! Anyway, to console myself and hopefully make the rest of the progress easier I have now treated myself to a large standing frame I found on ebay so now I'm just waiting for it to come in the post and then I can get back into it hopefully.

Hope to have a progress pic next week

I haven't seen this before (it happened to me once that all the marks for new posts were gone from my computer), so I just looked at the design, and it looks wonderful! I hope you can sort the problem out with the new stand!

Hoorah my stand arrived yesterday so I put it together last night and got the needlepoint fixed on to it. I'm itching to get back to the sewing now thank goodness but it's such a nice day here today I'm getting some jobs done in the garden and then having a break to cool down and catch up on here everynow and then!

Any way here's a pic of it on the stand.
