 Thanks for your compliments!

Unfortunately, her dance class was canceled Monday, so she'll have to wait until next week to show it off. She was crushed that she couldn't go, but she at least got to show it to one of her school mates (I had it in the car when I picked her up from school since we didn't find out about the cancellation until we got to the dance studio).

mechie wrote:A couple of months ago I posted a pic of a ballerina I had stitched for my daughter with the intention of making it into a ballet bag for her. Well, last weekend I finally got around to doing the sewing work.

Now, I am a much better stitcher than I am a sewer. I didn't have a pattern or instructions to work from, which is very intimidating for me. My engineering brain just isn't comfortable without detailed plans and instructions. So, I read up on instructions on how to make all sorts of things and then compiled the bits and pieces I needed and came up with my own plan.

I'm very pleased with the end results. And, more importantly, my daughter absolutely loves it! She can't wait to show it off at dance class this afternoon.

So, here it is:

It looks great! I'll have to keep this idea in mind when I finish a piece that I can't really "do" anything with. Awesome!

Well, I've dusted off the sewing machine again and made another cross stitch into a bag. This one is all mine. I needed a bag to keep my gaming dice in, so I found a cute little dragon freebie that was just the right size and stitched it up. Then, using the tutorial I found here as a starting point I made this:

I'm very happy with my new dice bag. I think it turned out pretty well considering I'd never done boxed corners before. I still need some practice on my sewing skills (my seams are pretty wonky), but I'm getting there! :D

Enjoy!

Thanks! I haven't done the pink one yet  . It's on my list since Little One will be starting a dance class that requires actual dance shoes this summer (the 3 year old class that she's in now dances barefoot). Once it's all stitched and put together I'll post it here. :D

:applesauce: :applesauce: Lovely bag. the dragon is great and the fabric is perfect as a match. Since I can't sew much but replace a button or two, I think you have done an awesome job!

Both bags look great! And boxed corners are special kind of magic when you're learning them. You look at the instructions and think HUH? that makes no sense, and then take a leap of faith and jump in.. and suddenly as you follow the instructions step by step it all comes together perfectly. Atleast that's how it was for me! :) Now I box the corners on every tote bag I make, it makes them sit better as I fill them, and they feel like they hold much more!

I was actually the opposite on the boxed corners. When I first read the directions I thought it made perfects sense, but when it came time to actually doing them I was a totally confused mess. Good thing I started with the corners on the liner. That way no one can see that the first one I did was completely off. :D And I do love how the bag stands nicely with the boxed corners. I think I'll be them that way on all bags too. :D
