It isn't very pretty....but I made it!!

Now for the story of this crazy experience, I started out thinking I was going to just get a hand stitch to try to make these...but I heard from several people that they are horrible, so then I started looking into simple sewing machines...finally I found out that Michaels had one and I had a coupon for 40% off I get there and of course start looking at the upgrade of the simple one and decide to get it...take the box to the front for them to take it out of the back...and they were sold out...I had called ahead of time and they assured me that they had them in stock...dissapointed I left and did not even get the simple one just out of principle I then went to another store where I got this one...
Image
Got home and realized that it only had the straight stitch setting and went to get a different one.....

Image

Got home unboxed and started reading the instructions....and felt ooo so overwhelmed that it went directly back in the box without even plugging it up and out came the initial one...Haha...

I made the huggie with it...but am thinking of taking it back as it is not nearly strong enough it kept bogging down...etc and not at all what I wanted...but then the other one seems way too fancy....and I won't ever use the 38 stitches it comes with..(it was the most basic one I could find) But...a friend of my family has a singer that she wants to sell with case...for $25 that she said she has barely used and it has sat for awhile...but I am afraid that with it sitting it will need to be serviced and I don't even know how to do that!! Any opinions?!?
Congrats on the cover! It's really cute. I have bought a few and they are seriously the best things ever to keep oil off my work. I need to look at my scrap pile and make a few myself!!!! :o

Congrats on your project!

As far as sewing machine go, I don't think its a bad one, Is there no way increase the tension of the stitch. Maybe try setting it at short stitches. Serving a sewing machine is relatively inexpensive in my experience. I have stitch with mine years, and my grandmother had it before me. As long as you keep it clean and dust free its needs little maintance (I use a facebrush). I have even start to service mine myself. There are tons of videos how to and as long as you use the correct oil and not to much its simple.

I hope you come write with your sewing machine.

Hello,

I know I'm a little late in the game, but I have the same Brother sewing machine as you do! :) I love mine; however, I had problems with it in the beginning. Here's my story:

It was crunch time and I needed to finish sewing my daughter's long gown for a performance. My old Brother sewing machine died! My husband and I went to Walmart and got this machine. Like you, I didn't want a fancy machine because I don't to that stuff. When I got home, I started having problems with my bobbin, the thread would clump and get stuck. Apparently, I wasn't threading and snapping my bobbin in place correctly. I finished her dress at 11:30pm, the night before her performance.

I love your Q-Snap huggie. I would love to make one. Do you remember the dimensions for yours?

I do sew, and have a few machines, but I'm one of those "gotta have a pattern or such" people. No spacial skills whatsoever! How did you figure it out? I have a snuggy from Nordic Needle and would like to make a few to fit the custom Qsnap sizes for my samplers.

Yes, Linnea, I do have about 4 of them now--in sizes to fit qsnaps that are 8 inches square, 11 inches square and 2 to fit 8 by 11 inch square---most of them I've bought from this ebay seller---great prices and fast shipping

She is really great---very affordable too. I still use some fabric or paper towel under the qsnaps, but the cover keeps the edges all nice and if you have extra fabric on your project, you can roll it up neatly(somewhat, anyway) and tuck that extra in the cover---there is lots of extra space. She has a few different sizes and in different fabric choices too. She's great to work with---and good at answering questions if you send them thru the ebay questions

Bring it with you if you come in April. And some 1/4" elastic.
Mary and I might be able to figure it out.
