Notre Dame de Paris - The Poet and the Dancer

Post by Mummy_of_Tia »

- sorry picture removed -
This is a long term project.
I don’t even know when I’ll get started on this, but I wanted to open a new thread for it to encourage me to start it sooner rather than later!

This is a picture of the musical Notre Dame de Paris, very popular in France and Italy.
The man is the carachter Pierre Gringoire, the Poet of the story, and the girl is one of the dancers of the “Val d’Amour”, the place where Esmeralda the Gipsy goes to meet Phoebus the soldier but he gets stabbed instead..
The dancers hanging from the bells are part of a dance routine from a song where the hunchback Quasimodo sings about his love for the bells that he rings that are his only friends.

Thank you to richardandtracy for helping me to convert the picture to a pattern (when I say “help me” I mean “do it all for me”!)

Now all I’ve got to do is decide what colour to choose for the fabric, I’m tempted to do in on a black 18 ct Aida.

I just need to invest in a good head torch!

I can’t wait to get started on this!

It will be amazing to stitch! :whoop:
It is brilliant too to have richardandtracy's expertise with us. I would not know either where to start.

It's usual to start at the beginning and work up from there.
Where the beginning is, is entirely up to you. :thinks: I always start on the right of an image because I use a frame and hold the left roller in my left hand. If I were to work the other way, I'd crush stitches I've completed. You may have similar considerations/quirks in the way you stitch.

Anyway, all the best with it.

Regards,

Richard.

Sorry, Richard, I might have confused matters. I meant that I would not know where to start to produce a chart from an image!
I blame it on being French...

Can't wait to see the first stitches, Mummy_of_Tia!

Well done to Richard for producing a chart for you, too.

Helene,

Not at all, my fault entirely. I was trying to be comically obtuse and pretend I didn't understand. Sadly the joke fell flat on its face. Something that happens all too often with my jokes. While we all speak English here, we do not necessarily all speak the same version and things don't always come across in the way intended. I shall try harder.

Regards,

Richard.

 ... and I will try not to take things so literally, Richard. I should have known! :D

Mummy_of_Tia, have you decided on the 18 Count Aida, yet?

No I’m still trying to figure out who’s got the copyright, I’ve emailed everyone even the guy in the picture and it’s seems like nobody knows

Would the producer or director or someone from the theater know who the photographer/artist is? It is beautiful.

I found out the picture is property of the agency that promotes the show.
Today they’ve emailed me saying the picture belongs to them.
So I’ve emailed them back explaining what I want to do with it.
Now I wait.

Well, this project was short lived.
They have denied me authorisation.

I hope you can find an equally challenging picture to stitch...one which does have copyright already granted.
It's a minefield out there and rightly the copyright issues have to be observed.

Have you looked at the HAED designs? There are some really interesting and challenging designs there.
