Thank you , Izzi and Richard, for a lesson of English. I have just learnt two new words- Leylandi and damselflies. It is never too late to learn.

Izzi, I also think you did right stitching the wings correctly. Cant wait to see the picture finished, backstitch and all.

Happy stitching!

You certainly know your stuff about dragonflies and damselflies and I've learnt something too!

Its great that you changed your design to suit the natural way of these beautiful insects, it's looking superb :whoop:

Thank you Lulu :) This was one of those times when what a lot of people would class as a piece of useless information came in useful after all  I do forget a lot of things nowadays yet this fact stuck in my mind for some unknown reason. I did check up to make sure before I put it on here just to be on the safe side as I do recently seem to get more things wrong than I used to

Re: Kingfisher & flowers - FINISHED

Post by kingfisher68(2) »

Here it is finally finished, YAY. You can just about see to the right of the dragonfly's head, the small pale yellow leaf I added so it would not leave a gap because I swapped body & head round. I did not want to leave a gap as it may have altered the balance of the picture the designer wanted. Tiny leaf stays just inside the border under the slightly larger yellow leaf which does go outside the edging.

I will sort a frame out, Have more than I thought as recently found some in a big carrier bag at the back of the largest of the hall cupboards. Going to have a few days break before I start thinking of a new project to do. Had thought of the rotation I was going to do the next few in but think I'll change them round. I was so keen to get on with this kingfisher, fitting in bits here & there, I made my neck & shoulders ache!

Have another john Halsall cottage chart to do which will go with Pleasant Row Cottages but may do a smaller project first. Will see in a few days time what I want to do next. I have 2 other cottages in my stash but will stitch Summer Place before I get round to do the others. Summer Place is 14x10 again & will go nicely with Pleasant Row Cottages. Lovely bright flowers again :)

Thank you for your help & advice with this kingfisher picture :D

Thank you all for your kind comments. As you gathered I really did enjoy stitching this colourful picture.

It is washed & now drying between 2 towels. Changed the first lot of towels & they will stay between the present 2. Have books on them to make sure it stays really flat. Found the frame I was looking for in my stash. It is 12x10 instead of 11x9 but it is narrow & white as the frame in the magazine page & looks fine. Another few days before I put it in there though.

This time I used the seat stand, I noticed marks coming from the peg stops onto the Aida. I realised if it was not on the stand properly when I finished stitching, I did slide it until centrally placed - entirely my own fault. Have put sellotape round the peg stops so it should not occur again. Got most of the marks out with a mild liquid soap & gently rubbing my fingers over it. I was concerned that as the frame is a bit larger it may show up near the bottom but thankfully when I placed frame over it, the marks did not show.
