Just a very beautiful result with the framing, Izzi!

(Apologies for misspelling your name, I changed that!)

Thank you all. I am pleased with this one Poppy, I loved it from the time I saw it in the magazine. I bought old cross stitch magazines from a charity shop about 18 months ago but didn't feel confident enough to stitch it until now. Since doing Pleasant Row Cottages I find I prefer larger projects than smaller ones. I did cards & small pictures for several years & it was only after coming on here October, 2016 that I got the courage to tackle larger designs :D

So glad that you started stitching bigger projects, as your stitching is beautiful. With pictures on the wall, you can just admire them, even when you are too tired to stitch. Your kingfisher will brighten any day! :D

PS : Which magazine was your Kingfisher in?

Thanks Poppy.

I will try & find out which magazine it was from. I had taken chart out & kept it in a plastic folder. I do remember it was from 2012, as date was on bottom of magazine page, so not all that old. May have been WOXS or Cross Stitcher. After I'd posted this on Stitch-a-long I realized it was called by a different name to one I'd given it. Either 'Flash of Blue' or 'A Flash of Blue' but I decided to leave the title I'd given it.

Like Mabel suggested I looked for designer intending to mention the dragonfly wings but I could not find it. Just below thread list it did say the kit for this picture was available & for details go to another page but of course I did not have the rest of the magazine. Will try to find out over the weekend which magazine it came from. Magazines websites usually show back issues by their cover so hopefully I can find it for you :)

It is kind of you, Izzi but do not worry too much and spend your week-end looking for it. I have a subscription to the WOXS and keep most of them in folders, so I can have a look too. Did you use the exact DMC colours or did you substitute with the threads, you already had?
Where will you display your lovely kingfisher?
You could send a photo of it to the WOXS with a little text all about it, by e-mail. As it is a chart from their magazine, you could win a prize. :D

Can't find the magazine, Poppy. I've look as far as I can under 2012 cross stitch magazines on EBay to see if I could find it & let you know the date of the mag it was in. But all I can find is the chart for sale from a magazine on EBay but it doesn't say which magazine it comes from. It could have been WOXS, Cross Stitcher or Cross Stitch Crazy. Thanks for saying I could put picture on a x stitch magazine & possibly win something but I can't remember the magazine.

I used all the colours as per the chart list. The only thing I did not do was add the touches to show the feathers. I started putting tiny white stitches on its head & I didn't like it. Looked like dandruff to me but I doubt birds get dandruff!! Oh dear I was upset as it seemed me that it took away the beauty of the colours. I also did a few on the wing & the back but I did not like it all. So I spent a lot of time taking out the dandruff, took ages as those the head were so tiny, & I took out others. I prefer it as it is now with just minor amount of back stitch. After the debacle with the dragonfly I felt sorry I could not do it as the designer wanted. I preferred to take out stitches no matter how long it took as I'd spent all those hours stitching it so was not going to give up. There are a few tiny ones still on his head but I didn't want to mess it up by trying too hard to get them all out.

I know before charts are put in magazines a professional/experienced stitcher completes each design & on looking at main photo of the picture with a magnifying glass I can see she did lovely stitching for feathers etc. Then I remembered what other members say on here you do the design to your own taste. it does not have to be identical to the original.

Not sure where it will go at the moment. I was going to stand it on a shelf next to the kingfisher long stitch picture I made a few years ago, a Derwentwater Design one, but may hang it on a wall. Before I started stitching this I had thought of putting it in the kitchen as it is bright & cheerful but now it is stitched decided against that. I would prefer it somewhere in the lounge. Our hall is dark so we don't hang anything along there which is a shame in one way but it would be lovely to hang this where I can see it a lot. Summer Place I have started will be put on lounge wall next to Pleasant Row Cottages in the same set so I know where that is going. Maybe hang the kingfisher nearby.

Thank you for looking, Izzi.
You put your own interpretation to the design, which means that it is unique :D
Your lounge sounds like a good place to display it. It will be admired by all, who come to visit you
